Im sure you can figure out the appropriate adjective. It was bolted on. New one will be welded.

How big should i go? Is class 3 fine or should i go bigger?

Class 3 is only 5k, you want class 4 (10k) or better. What happened, bolts break?

Out of the 6 or 8 bolts 2 held(the forward ones) and the rest ripped apart. I couldnt see how many bolts were there since the flange is soo ass'd out.

Damn, that sucks. Lucky those last two held together or it could have been messy. :eeek: Makes me want to take a close look at the factory hitch on my Dodge now.

Um yeah, EVERYONE here should. Once yer done weld that sh!t up. This was way beyond a holy fawk situation for me.

Don't Weld it!!, get a good class 4 bolt on. if you weld it onto the frame which is a high strength low alloy steel it will eventually crack and break off, unless of course you go through the proper preperation for welding high strenth low alloy steel's but even if you do that there is more ptential for failure of a welded hitch than a bolt on. We had like an hour discussion on this in my metallurgy class

Class 3 is all I have on the dually, it's more than enough for your POS and a 16' trailer...but that would be it.

I would have gotten something bigger but at the time the Class 3 was less than half the price of a 4.

Why not just re-bolt it back into place with one size bigger bolts? Save the $ for something else.

And I'm not trying to be a smart azz, I'm truly just asking a valid question that nobody else seems willing to bring forth?

The hitch isn't bent. You simply have a hardware failure? Yes? So just replace the damn hardware.

I agree with the no welding, but I didn't know you could make low alloy steel brittle by just welding, without an almost instantaneous quench? Do you know something i dont:scratchhead:

Have you looked at a CCT (Continuous Cooling Transformation) Diagram? If you had, you would understand...

im taking a lecture class on weldable and non-weldable steels:awesomework: over at edmonds community college, if you preheat it sure no problem but if you just go cold turkey there will be under bead cracking and will eventually fail

damn kids and their classes... lol..

and treeclimber like I said.. they already had a recall for cracking on the factory dodge hitches.. might as well dump the POS while you're working on it..

Do any of you guys know what years? All I was able to find was 2000, and I haven't heard anything about my '06.
