Check your hitches,

You guys that tie your rig down to the trailer by the bumper are fools. That sh*t moves around more than you think!

I'd have to agree, if it was to the axles with chains, it would still be on the trailer. The guy got lucky that it happened where it did, and at least he's only out a couple hundred bucks. :D

Wow dude that sucks, im going to go check mine now...
off topic but is that by lynden, WA

I may be wrong... but that looks like E Main st. in Puyallup, WA...

in the background of the one pic it looks like the 'Waynes Inn Tavern'...

and that all would have landed areound the area of Bunce rentals (in the background as well) and the Bowling Alley...

But I could be mistaken....

First, Its good that you are safe and that no one in the vicinity was hurt.

Second, obviously shitty welds on the hitch, be it factory or homemade. Good advice for ALL OF USE to take the time to look over our own hitches, factory, custom or hack-job.

Third, that XJ was insufficiently tied down. Axles or Body beside the point, there should be no reason that the straps separated from the trailer. Either the tiedown points failed on the trailer, or the straps broke (not enough evidence in the pictures provided) or there just plain wasn't enough strap(s) holding the truck to the trailer (should be a minimum of (4) for that load).

Chains or Straps aside, proper tiedowns should have held that truck on the trailer. Next time get better straps that LOCK in place. IMO 'hook' type straps are for cargo management, not vehicles. EXPECIALY if you strap the to body. Very likely that enough "bounce" was caused on the suspension allowing the hooks to come loose, then the straps might as well not have been there.

Last, your XJ needs a cage :D Looks like a good start for a wheeling rig now :finger:

You all realize this is NOT Karls rig??? He just posted this over here to show everyone what could happen.

Jonsjeep, If your jeep is so terrible on the trailer, I would surely hope if never see's the pavement. Tie to the damn axles, You may think you have no suspension up, but that little bit of backlash is all it takes to snap, or eventually break a strap.

Used to go there with my dad.. we would sneak out of the house and tell my mom we were ging to the parts store.. go in play some pool (cause it was free) and have a drink.. LOL (I grew up about 1/4 mile from there)

where is Bumpy's??

That sucks about that hitch, trailer, truck, and rig though... definately make me want to be more attentive to future tows with any and all of my vehicles...

I just checked my hitch. Its looking good.

Joop, Are you still going off yer bumpers or are you going off the axles now?
