Longfield CV Rubicon axles

We tested a couple stock outers and some popular up graded outers and the CV and it was impressive on how much the CV's can take and the OEM ones cant take.

OEM tested at 10 deg. of twisting and 2000-2500 FT/LBS of torque before breaking.

Popular up-grade #1 tested at 40 deg. of twist and 5000 FT/LBS of torque

Popular up-grade #2 tested at 50 deg. of twist and 4100 FT/LBS of torque

CV's tested at 75 deg. of twist and 6800 FT/LBS of torque at a FULL TURN!!!!!!!

I cant wait to run these and not have to worry about breaking them(but trust me...I will try hard)

Awesome pics. :awesomework: So did the cv break or just twist? If it broke, where? Can't really tell from the pics.
 
And the grinding of the knuckles is for clearance? or turning radius?

What are the axle dimensions & spline options?
 
The knuckles need to be machined or ground to clear the orange boot. These axles fit TJ Rubicon Dana 44 front axles.
 
If you put Bobby's CV in a D30, it's inevitable that the tires will also get upgraded, and the D30 will **** the ring gear faster than I typed this sentence.
 
Inner case broke, and it was loud and sparks flew when it did:D

Its like a huge JACK IN THE BOX!

You watch and watch, all the while knowing its gonna blow, then BOOOM!! I jump every time!
Ask Bobby about the whole he fixed in the roof!:redneck:
 
Here are some more pictures to show where and how to do a little grinding or machining for clearance for the boot. Take about a 1/16 off all three bolt hole areas in the knuckle. About a 1/2 inch down this cast is real easy to grind.

I believe its D44 ring gear

it is, but it will break

Let's clarify.

The Rubicon uses a D44 housing and shafts. These 30 spline shafts are reasonably strong to use wheeling, but an upgrade to Bobby's CV shaft is a huge improvement.

The D30 used in the TJs are remarkably similar to the D44s used in the TJ-Rubicons. They differ in the size of the axle splines (and the corresponding side gears of the differential) AND they have a smaller ring and pinion (hence the D30 designation).

Yes, you can upgrade a Dana30 with parts to allow the larger axle shafts to fit.

And by so doing, I don't see why you couldn't run Bobby's shafts in a D30.

However it's MY OPINION, that you've created a weak link in the Ring / Pinion if you were to install these shafts.

So in reply... NO, the D30 does NOT have the same ring gear as a D44
 
I broght it home last night on the trailer(not broke) and from the little I did drive I can tell you that turning was noticeably smoother in 2wd and 4lo.

I cant wait to get ot out on a trail soon.
 
I think there is a huge market in the TJ Dana 44 category, but I think it would be larger in the older style Dana 44's.

I think this is a great move by Longfield Axles, Great Job Bobby :awesomework:

Actually, I'm very disappointed as the D60 CV's from Bobby will not fit in my Dana 50 knuckles :booo:
