In a toyota 4cyl rangebox on the upper shaft the high range gear has a strange gear shaped washer on it. It has one less tooth than the drive gear on it, it is not a synchro. My best guess so far is just a oil slinger?

look at the first two pics of a good one. one pic is the even teeth the other pic is *180 around the gear on the odd side.

The last three pics are a F***** up one that I dont see how it happened/why? Any body else tear apart a toybox and see this before?:eeek: The lower gear cluster or the upper gear has to out of place about a 1/4inch for this to happen, I dont see where it came from?

That's from a later year gear set. It's what is known as a quiet run gearset. There is one tooth less on the ring vs the gear. No worries it isn't anything weird.

Yea that is a lot of gear movement to have let them do that... I've seen the counter gear worn a bit from the quiet run ring but not like that. That's one to show Marlin for sure...

For some reason the plate gear that quiets it all down got fawked. If i had to wheel it tomorrow i would check the bearings, Clean em havily if good and run that ****. If it was me i would run as little parts of that case in the doubler as possible. (duh)

The ring helps remove backlash from the gear set. The only downside of running without one would be a little extra gear noise. It's a 4wd get rid of the POS and run it. :redneck: You may want to verify that it does not need to be there as a spacer before you completely remove it though.
