Just picked me up a new TOW RIG and got rid of that bullshit fuel mileage dodge V-10!

2000 F250 Powerstroke 7.3l auto, Lariat XLT, super cab, long box, 157k and Brand new BFG AT's and a fresh detail all for $8900....:awesomework:

Only mods are a K & N stock airbox filter and possibly a superchip....not sure on that though, just a sticker on the back window....

What mods should I start with....Budget friendly and not to crazy....I just wanna turn it up alittle so I can blow some smoke

Ford isn't even going to offer a manual anymore behind their new diesel..

With the new 6 speed autos. There is no need for a manual. I just towed a 30' enclosed down to LA and back this past week in a 08 crew cab dually GMC dmax with the 6 speed auto.. holy crap was that thing nice to drive! So easy to tow. And never had any problems with the hills bone ass stock. And she'd drop down a gear or two when you tap the brakes and run all the way to almost 4k to get you slowed down in a hurry.

i could not find anything that was up to my standards for the price...and since I was buying this cash I was on a budget, this fell into my good deal column, and it truely is a nice truck and its nice not messing with shifting, it shifts good and hard and drives like a car, and I have no beef with powerstroke, My last 2 trucks have been dodges and i've had lots of bullshit problems with the trucks themselves and I dont like the suspesion either, but I couldn't find the 5 sp anywhere with lower miles for any where near the price I could get away with without financing! I own this bitch free and clear!:awesomework: From what I hear the autos are decent in the fords vs. dodges and this truck is basically bone stock!

Yea the 7.3 is a good motor. You can get good towing power out of them for a reasonable amount. And yes, for the era the Ford tranny's were better. Do the basic mods and you will be plenty happy with the truck. I suggest a DP Tuner F6, exhaust, full gauge setup and intake.

nice lookin rig!! id dump the k@n, alot better out there. exhaust,intake and guages. Then look into a chip, DP tuner is usually the best choice. keep an eye on the transmission. they have theyre weakspots and if the truck is left stock they last awhile but throw power at em and its a matter of time. If you have any questions go to NWFORDDIESELS.COM alot of good help there. if you have a superchip it should be down on the firewall next to the ebrake handle possibly gold in color

I built my own tuning, cost me around $50 total. Tymar intake, 4" exhaust, full gauges and a manual torque converter lock up. May want to install an additional transmission cooler (Did mine in about 45min, keeps the tranny much cooler when towing) and you should be good to tow. :redneck:

The manual TCC lockup is also highly recommended if you want to squeeze all the black smoke you can out of the 7.3L. I got one on mine.

Great looking truck at a great price!!
Some of the Fords of that vintage had a huge trans cooler, other didn't. You'll just have to look.
After knowing what I (unfortunately) know now, if it were my truck I'd start a tranny fund. My trans went at 140K 2,000 miles from home. I was lucky and had a great shop that knew the trans and did some decent upgrades to the new trans. If I did it at home, on my schedule, I'd have bought an aftermarket trans with all the goodies and could have done it cheaper. If you change it on YOUR schedule you can save a ton of cash and get a better product.

I called the Ford dealership and had them run the vin to see if the cam sensor recall had ever been taken care of and it hadn't...so they got me in right away and took care of that, then I drove down to the muffler shop and had them get rid of the muffler....she sings like the wind now!

I'd be careful with chincy tuning... Even with well known companies like Edge. Poor tuning leads to quick tranny failures on the Fords. Some people like to cheap out with these trucks, but i've heard too many bad things from those that do and have always tried to use the right products on my truck.

If your going to tune it I like the edge evolution tuner and manual gages. The evolution really wakes up a 7.3 (as much as they are able without major mods). Get the bypass tube block off kit for the banjo bolts on the side of the trans. It prevents the trans from grenading quickly. If you put a trans temp gauge on it after tuning you will see what I am talking about. The bypass is on the side of the trans with a tube and 2 banjo bolts. It is there to warm the trans faster, but when power is added it bypasses because of the increase in pressure directly related to the increase in power and makes the trans run hot (making it grenade). If you block this it will shift firmer when cold and not warm up as fast. Drive by trans temp gauge its usually the reason an auto trans doesn't last when towing. Trans temps seem to be the highest when towing on slow going gravel roads while towing into the mountians. The lockup switch will help this from happening if used correctly. :beer:

that's one of the ones I was talking about.. the Edge is known to kill the Ford autos...
