• Help Support Hardline Crawlers :

Chris's CJ7 Cage

I got a good one here. Tough goal, make a custom cage off of a stock rollbar without it looking like a kentucky special.

Its a CJ7, so I looked at alot of pics before bending any tube. My rules were, keep it away from the window rollers, cover 4 people/seats, fit under hardtop, 1.75 around passengers with 1.5 for crossbracing, and keep the glove box opening like stock....

.................and do it all for far less than just what a PS kit costs.:;

started out with the frame mounts. The owner had already put steel frame mounts under the tub for me to work off of. I cut a hole in the thin rusty floorboard tin and then boxed in the 3/4 inch difference to keep it all sealed up. The cage remains able to be removed/unbolted if need.

When did you start selling lipstick for pigs? Your work looks good but doesn't match the shape of the ghey stock bar at all. Why wouldn't he let you shitcan it and start from scratch?:rolleyes:

I would have loved to, it just wasnt in the cards/budget.

The only way to match the factory shape is to "three hoop it", which to me would look like an african safari rig.:haha:

I looked thru hundreds of pics online and finaly got the best ideas from older CRAWL mags with runs form back east, those guys budget build and love jeeps.

First time I ran it, didn't know it was there under the snow. Here's the dump into it. And the winch fest getting it out, good thing I brought my snowshoes. Then winching Gibby through on his attempt.

I understand the budget thing. The main thing is that you are thinking about the safety of your family, and taking steps to ensure it. Good job Brad.
