how should i mount my rear shocks, im running waggys and a 6 inch shackle i would like the smallest hole in my bed as possible

Smallest hole and most stable would be to mount them as inline with the arc of the axle as possible and use a ford type shock mount so there is just a small hole in the bed floor.

so grind the rivets to get the mounts off a ranger or f-150, weld them to the inside of the framerail above the axle, cutting out the wheel well for clearance?

Mounts off of a F250 or 350 87-97ish. They are bolted in place, pretty sure 87-91 are 2 bolt and later are 4 bolt but they are identical otherwise. I'd mount them either to the inside of the frame or above it. Either way be sure to plate everything especially if the inside of the frame if you mount them there. The inside of the frame is roughly 3/32" thick so it will tear easily.

sounds like a plan ill have to round up some shock towers tommorow, glad i didnt cut a huge hole in my bed tonight! thanks for the advice man

Ive always wanted to do a cantilever shock system to avoid the hole in bed

Yea it worked out well for this truck... :haha:

Ya know I might have to do that.... I need to build new mounts for the rear now that I went to a longer shock and I have another bed floor... Fawking fantastic idea, thanks Joe! :D

I remember reading in a magazine somewhere that a company acutally made or makes a kit for cantiliver shocks. It was installed on a campaign(sp?) colored newer body style chev that they SAS'd.

The onlyones I ever bought new were only $18 for the pair new but that was about 7 years ago. I just installed a set for a kid and he got them used with the lower mounts and shocks still attached for $20 from a local yard so yea they are a good cheap mount.
