Got the sides all welded up. Then smoothed out the weld to make it lower then the surface for an easy thin coat of bondo when the time is right. Till then, just black primer.

If you had seen it up close you would have applauded cutting that tub up. It's all hvac ducting and bed frame angle iron after the doors.

Then some dom landed on it. With lots more tube to come.

Also got the bottom half of the amberlamps doors cut off and seats removed.

Those bitchin' camaro seats fit perfect in the zuk, thanks. Will be nice to get the welder burnt soggy Celica seats out. Might as well be comfy while I'm wheelin jack stands.

Surprisingly smooth since it was so old no safety equipment is required and all you need to bring it across the border is a bill of sale and your own citizenship papers. The most difficult thing was trying to convince the ladies at the DMV that it wasn't worth 23k bucks.

I got the rocker bars mocked up then welded on. They are 2x4 .120 wall.

Then got a couple corners cut out of some 1/4 inch plate to wrap the corners around and to attach the B pillar of the cage. I used some flatbar to give a nice lip to weld to.

Then I torched out a couple top lips to cap the tub and give me a sturdy lip to bolt the removable top to.

Got it all tacked up. Then burned it in and added a gusset to keep the door jamb solid.

Then I used a combination of flatbar and angle iron to frame out the back of the cab and prepare for some thick corners.

Put some 12 gauge sheet on the corners for protection while Im cruising the ghetto. This way when the doors, windshield and top are off there not much left to damage.
Tacked it on the edge of the door opening lip and started bending it around with lots of force. Got it far enough to start tacking and using large C/clamps for the remainder of the wrap. Then welded the lip all the way around. It came out nice and smooth and is extremely strong. The sheet extends past the top lip about a half inch so it is under the top keeping water out.

Then I started on the cage with the B pillar first. Had the top on and off so many times to make sure it all fits inside well and is easy to remove by two people.

The main structures of the cage are 1.5 inch DOM and the bracing is 1 inch DOM.

I welded the top lip of the tub in as many places as I could to make it all one strong unit. The door jambs are super rigid and the doors shut better than ever.
