Im just starting a build on a customer's Jeep TJ and he picked up this rear axle for $50 of CL. I told him it was a good deal from the pics posted in the add but after looking at it im not sure what it is. We ran the numbers on it on Dana's website and this number came back as a E350 axle I think. Its 30 spline FF with 3.5" tubes. Is this a dana 60 and not a 61? Botht the 60 and 61 have a 9.75" ring gear and both are 30 spline acording to the eweb. Is this a good axle? Or should we scrap this one and get a regular 60? He plans to run 35 spline and a ARB. Also he would like to run a 5.86 gear ratio, any good news about that ratio as I have never really heard of anyone running it?

Nick this wont help you get your buggy done!

Yes I know. I figure a 2 month build for this guy with full axle swap, 4 link with air shocks, back half with fuel cell in the tub and a full cage. I need the paying work to finish my rig. :booo: necessary evil I guess.

try looking at thedieselstop.com!

they have a lot of info on these rear ends and the e-series van. i couldn't find anything from the bom# on the tube.. but if you enter the 46258# by the pumpkin it shows a part # for lite weight apps..

Think it a Dana 60 from an e350 ford van Randy's
Ring and pinion part dept is good help to figure it out for sure :awesomework:

What is the gear ratio in it? If its a 61 it would have 3.07 gears they came in the early dodge diesel trucks. I owned one once. They use all the same parts as a 60 but you have to buy a 1/4 inch spacer for the ring gear because when Dana produced it for dodge the moved the pinion over a 1/4 inch to accommodate the 3.07s.

Not to be a **** but if you assured a "customer" of buying something and have no idea of what your saying, that's kinda ****ed. In my opinion you shouldn't "experiment" on customers rigs/money if you don't know what your talking about. But I guess if it's a jeep, it doesn't matter anyways :awesomework:

In the first 2 sentences of his post he states that the customer bought and picked up the axle after he saw the pictures.
And a dana 60 for $50 is a risk most people are willing to take...
I do agree with your last sentence though! :redneck:
