So any tricks to repairing broken rope thats pretty beat on? I am struggling sectioning it back together using the typical method of going thru the center of the rope with the other section (kinda like those Chinese finger locks).

The problem is getting the rope to spread enough to insert the section of rope and feed it thru the center.

I have tried getting the rope wet to no avail.

Any tricks would be helpful...

are you using a FID? Goes on the end of the "inner" line, and helps push/pull the "inner" line thru the center of the "outer" line. Marine shops should carry it, but they dont always know what you mean right off the bat. I think I found mine at Work/Sports, but they didnt even know they had em. Was in the crab pots section.

Mine broke on the trail about a year ago and I just tied a plan old knot in it. Have had no problems with it since and my winch gets used a lot.

So I tried and tried to do the normal weave and the rope is so warn that I couldn't do it. So I went with an in/out style and had to wrap the ends. It worked fine with a dead pull but I think its time for some new rope.
