What brake parts toyota ???

Re: Re: What brake parts toyota ???

The "best" upgrade IMO is the Tacoma brake mod.

swap on ifs wheel hubs, turn down the od of the wheel mounting surface a bit, run a Tacoma slip on rotor.

Then you've got a couple caliper options:
Run regular ifs truck calipers mounted on the outside of the ears on the knuckle,
Or
Get the Front Range Offroad Tacoma caliper bracket, and run Tacoma calipers

having the slip on rotor is nice because you can pull the whole spindle/hub assembly without tearing into the hub and wheel bearings.

What he said. :dblthumb: I did the landcruiser rotors and ifs calipers before I knew about the tacoma setup.

Me too. On several axles. I always run ifs hubs.
Even with the land cruiser rotors, I can still remove the spindle without disassembling the hub, but you have to use a straight wrench to get behind the rotors.

Ill use the Tacoma setup from now on tho.

What about the ifs hubs off a 98 tacoma will they fit?

Not that I know of, I think its only the early IFS hubs that will work. I did the swap on mine yesterday with LC rotors, v6 ifs calipers and ifs hubs. Pretty easy swap I drilled the ears out on my knuckles and used a grade 8 12mm bolt and a lock nut to hold the calipers.

Ok this is where I'm at 6 shooter knuckles with straight axle spindle with 1987 ifs hubs (turned down) with 1998 tacoma rotor and 1988 v6 calipers but the problem is I'm going to have to space the caliper (less than .25) from the knuckle ears to get the rotor in the middle of the caliper. So is that normal?

Yes, you can weld a little spacer to the knuckle ears, or use washers, nuts, etc. it's about 1/8" off when you use the LC rotors on the backside of the ifs hub, so I just let the pads set off center...

I drilled my knuckle ears out, then drilled and tapped the caliper ears to 9/16" fine thread, but some people use bolts and nuts.

Stupid question. Will the tacoma rotors and ifs calipers work with stock sfa hub bodies? I have all this stuff and have to tear into my front axle soon.

Dunno, that would be cool if they would, for the people that dont need the extra width. I'd say it will be pretty likely that they will work.

I'm thinking that it will work as long as you turn your hub down. The caliper will bolt on the inside of the ear like normal. If you try it let us know if it works. With the ifs hubs you gain 1.25" per side.

Alright, I pulled a tape on this stuff tonight. I don't see any reason why a tacoma rotor can not be used with a solid axle hub and an IFS caliper.

The landcruiser rotors I currently have are about the same diameter as the tacomas. The distance from the face of the hub where the wheel bolts up, to the face of the rotor is about 1/16" different than the tacoma rotor would be after being slipped over the hub body. I have some front axle work to do, so I will try this and get back to you guys. :dblthumb:

I went with the V6 calipers just to let y'all know I had to grind alittle off the outside of the caliper for wheel clearance.

Did you do Tacoma rotors, ifs hubs, and v6 ifs calipers? or did you end up using the sa hubs?

Pix?

Some pixs of what i'm doing
