YJ FUEL CELL...now a pump issue...now a split tank

GUYS,
WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR FUEL CELLS BEHIND THE REAR SEAT? WHERE DID YOU BUY THEM? STOCK PUMP OR EXTERNAL? IF EXTERNAL, WHAT PUMP FOR A 4.0. I HAVE A CELL NOW BUT ITS TOO BIG. I KNOW THERE IS INFO ON PIRATE BUT RATHER HEAR FROM YOU GUYS. OH, AND I SAW SOME 10GAL CELLS ON EBAY....PROBABLY STAY AWAY BECAUSE THEY ARE PLASTIC BUT WAS CURIOUS IF ANYONE THOUGHT 10GAL WOULD BE TOO SMALL FOR ALL DAY WHEELING.

RCI 2161, either modify the in tank pump/sender or put an e2000 external pump with pre filter.

ANY ISSUES WITH WELDS CRACKING? SOME OLD POSTS ON BUTT PIRATE MENTIONED THE TANK SPLITTING....BOTH WITH STRAPS OR USING THE FACTORY TABS TO BOLT DOWN.

i have the same tank....i use the Artec fuel cell mount for it. it has taken a real beating with no issues. i would not mount the fuel cell by just the tabs that come on it.

I use a black poly tank from sandparts.com. Designed for little sand dune buggies. It is a 6 gallon cell, cylindrical shape. It is a non sump design with no baffles. I made a custom surge tank that holds a quart of fuel that mounts remotely under my seat so it will run upside down if necessary.

I run a jeep 4.0l as well. I can wheel 7 hours non stop heavy wheelin at hot springs and have 1/16 of a tank at fill up.

There are some unusual down falls to this setup. I have less than limited room with my kiddos seats crammed in a 2 seat rig. Lemme know if you want specific info on my whole set up if thats really the route you end up going. Good luck man. Don't be afraid of poly, never rusts, cracks and flexes.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. LOOKS LIKE I'D BE IN THIS ABOUT $350 WITH TANK, PUMP, AND BRACKETS. BUT, I'D HAVE MY CURRENT CELL TO SELL AND RECOUP SOME CASH.

I GOTTA FIGURE OUT SOMETHING....KIDS ARE DRIVING ME NUTS ABOUT GOING OUT WHEELING!

RCI TANK IS 30X9X12.

I've got the rci 2161. They stopped putting tabs on them. I made straps for mine. So far so good

RCI will warranty those tanks no questions asked, not even a receipt required. Call or email Wayne at RCI.

Yeah buy you have to go thru the hassel of a fuel cell leaking gas everywhere. I had 2161 in my buggy and it busted at the seam, will never run one again. If it were me I'd go with that plastic one from jegs, you'll just have to add a fitting for a return line.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replies. I ended up winning a brand new 2161 on e-bay and saving about $45 bucks so I went that route.

Anyone tell me where they got fittings from and which one to use between these (2)? Or maybe another option. I know they need to be -8AN.

Price difference is minimal $13 vs $18 I just want the stuff that works.

I used the barb fittings on mine. Guess it just depends on your personal preference. If you using braided hose use the upper fittings. flashemifyougotem

I get my fittings from Summit, it takes a little digging on their site, but they have what you need.

PUMP DOESN'T SHOW POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE ON POSTS. IT RUNS BOTH WAYS THOUGH.

SOMEBODY HAS TO HAVE THE ANSWER TO THIS.
