What kinda oil pressure do you got at cold start and then at operating temp? When is it too low for an ls. Have heard 6 lbs was enough at idle.

6lbs sounds low. pretty sure my buggy idle's at about 40 psi. it has a modified oil pump from texas speed. my wife's tahoe with a stock 5.3 idle's around 30psi.

My low pressure indicator light comes on at 20psi. Occasionally it will flicker at cold start for a second or 2. I rarely see pressures below 30psi.

If low indicator pops measure the gap from the pickup tube to the floor of the pan also. Clay or play-dough works well. The o-ring on the pickup tube should be a noticable "pop" of sorts into the bore, if you dont feel the little give in it then it may not be sealing properly.

My Denali with the 6.0 idles near 40 when warm.

(My friends 5.7 LS1 maxed out the pressure gauge on his accumulator - 120psi from full throttle hits)

Thanks for the info guys. I just bought a rig and the oil pressure was a little low for what I liked. Put a melling standard volume high pressure pump on it hoping to fix the problem but I'm not sure it has. Still only about 35 at cold start and haven't got it all back together to run it around at operating temp to see how low it gets.

If it's a newer ls with the oil controlled lifters that drops certain cylinders (damn name escapes me right now, but replaced a **** ton of them lol) then there will be a screen under the oil pressures with that you can pull out with a pick and replace. Seen a lot of them cause low pressure issues. It's it's not then sounds like bearings.

Active fuel management. Just remembered the name don't feel like going and fixing my sentence from earlier lol

Alright got the new pump put on and still not fixed. Starts out at 35 cold and slowly will work its way down to 0 after about 15 minutes of running around. The only thing that has me puzzled is that it's not making a single noise when gauge says 0. I've put another gauge on it and it reads the same. Where are y'all pulling your pressure from? Mine comes from right above filter. I've heard you can also pull it from the sending unit port on back of block. I guess I'll check it from there and if it's the same I'll go internal.

Re:

Pulling mine from sending unit port up top, never seen mine below 28 and that was running too hot from sitting around idling usually idles about 35, its an '04 LQ4

I pull mine from a port right behind the power steering pump. 5.3

Cold it idles at 45ish

Warm it idles at 25-30 and about 70 at 5 grand

My 2013 6.0 idles at 20 and cruising at 70mph/1500 rpm its about 35, does't get over 40 unless you are getting on it.

I get mine from the remote filter housings. 6psi would make me uncomfortable. Even when I tore up the main bearings my LS2 carried 20psi at idle. Something is wrong
