Getting stickies...now what wheels

for a 15 or a 17?
I've tried to mount a couple sets of KMC. Make sure you get a good dealer (Scott at sunfire should be helpful). One one set the holes were tapped wrong straight into the aluminum and the bolts wouldn't hold even to snug the ring. Okay, maybe its the slightly larger metric equivalent (5/16 to M8). Nope, just tapped wrong, every one of them. Matt O on here tried a set as well and had back luck but that was years and years ago. Several have had good luck with them, and if you have a good dealer and have a problem, they can get you more. Just try a bolt hole or 2 and make sure they bolt up centered before you go to the trouble of mounting all the tires first.

Another vote for TR's. I have a set of KMC's now and they are ok but I believe the TR is a better wheel. Plus it's made in the USA.

Update to this incase anyone cares:

So I had originally bought some used Maxxis Creepy Crawler stickies in a 40" size. Once I got them, they only measured 37.5. They were about 25-30% tread but I knew that going in to it. Regardless, even full tread they were no where near a 40" tire. Since I was running 42 Iroks prior to this (measured about 40.75" mounted with 5 PSI). The Maxxis were just too small and I didn't like all the wheel well gap I was going to have. I ended up reselling them to a friend.

SO, I looked around and ended up with some reds I got from a fellow hardline member and some new KMCs from Sunfire.

Nice. I prefer the raw aluminum for the rings. They get beat up, but they still look the same unlike painted or powder coated rings.

Finally got all (4) on. Now,,,,,just need to get time to wheel.

Looks a lot different than it did 6 months ago.

You couldn't have went with a better tire. Now if you have any weak links in yer drivetrain, you'll find em. But if it don't break, yer goin to the top :dblthumb:

Thanks guys. I can't wait to try them out. I know in Harlan I was absolutely AMAZED at what I saw them do. I have seen reds in action but not wheeled with anyone on the same trails at the same time before the Harlan trip. It was crazy watching the stickies do with ease what I couldn't do/or struggled to do with my IROKS.

I hope to test them out this weekend. I asked in another thread, but will ask again......anyone ever been to Blue Holler Offroad in Kentucky?

I haven't but pm me if you want to plan a trip. I'm not far away and I've heard it's got great potential

What you got going this Saturday? It's about 2 hours from me and I was going to try to make a day trip of it and see a new park. AOP is about 3.5 hours but that makes for a LONG day if I were to not spend the night.

Yes at at hardline Harlan ride was the only time I have been with anyone with Reds and on the Statium guys was crawling it and I was in 2nd and on the mat being way to rough on my jeep for that kind of hill the reds sure showed me how tires are supposed to hook

I run those kmc's with reds and 43" stickies, never have a issue with burping or tire coming off inside bead... These rims are great and heavy duty aluminum, no complaints!

I broke that wheel in half but kmc or wheel pro's ended up replacing it for free. I didn't ask for a free replacement but that's what they did. It took a little persistence to actually talk to the right person and the dealer i bought them from off of pirate4x4 was useless.

At least you bought them from sunfire, scott is great to deal with.

I am a fan of the kmc's but i still believe the trail ready's are a superior product.
