Replacing seals on my axle and thought I'd check the vent....not sure why I didn't in the past....maybe because its basically missing. This is best pic I can get. The truss goes right over the broken off vent nipple. So should I notch the truss and use the existing hole? Can I just pry this broken one out? I added speedi sleeves on spindles due to pitting so could be a combination of the 2 things that caused the leak.

If you look real close the shiny thing you see in the pic is a piece of wire I fished through the hole. Gives you an idea of how shitty the location is.

Can I drill a new hole somewhere and add a new one? If so can does it need to be in a specific area?

I have driven it about 45mph around 10 miles one way. I prob won't drive on the road ever now that I have reds.

Another guy asked about the truss too. I didn't put it on so not sure why its welded everywhere but the diff. You think I should preheat it and weld it the rest of the way?

Put a vent on the tube like a dana axle. Just pull a shaft and run a magnet up the tube to catch the drill chips

I thought about that just wasn't 100% sure if there was a reason not to do it that way. Figured I'd ask before I drilled a hole in the axle. Shafts are out already so that's actually an easy solution. Thanks for the reply

I would think it couldn't do anything but make the truss stronger and possibly keep the chunk from trying to twist? I ran axles with the vent capped of with no problems.

Welded up factory vent and added one to the tube. Thanks for the input.

I've done a couple and always just preheated the chunk. Never used a nickel rod bc the chunk is cast steel, not cast iron.

You can't anchor the truss to your diff cover? Like a standard bouncer style link tabs bolted double sheer? Im sorry I can't see the pic for whatever reason
