Re: High angle driveline .. Hell yea!

I doubt you're going to get a warranty deal but maybe he will build you a new one at cost or something like that. Never hurts to ask. I have ordered parts from him but never had him build anything. Seemed like a alright guy when I talked to him. Took quite a while to get my parts though.

Re: High angle driveline .. Hell yea!

The rust makes me think it was fractured a while before it actually broke

Re: High angle driveline .. Hell yea!

It's was cracked for a while Kush. The break shows it has fatigue stress marks all
Over it then the rust started and finally followed by the ductile fracture which caused the final failure. If he knows his
Metal at all shoW him and he might atleast help you out

^^^^Completely agree. Got some cold roll in the shop once that would do that. With a small weld around the outside about 8" back, let it cool, hit with a dead blow and it would break just like that. Siskin Steel said we ordered the wrong material? We usually or 1020 or 1040 and they sent us 1017 or something?
Went back through all the orders and proved we didn't order that and Siskin was like, oops sorry we must have miss labeled it. Cost us a lot of money and all we got was a sorry.
It's not like you can look at it and tell the difference.

Anyways, my point is if he knows his metals he should help you out.

Re: High angle driveline .. Hell yea!

Driveshops dont even make that piece, they buy and weld it into their tube. So yeah Jess would give ya a "sorry, I'll sell ya a nother" See where his weld held up...
Likely you bottomed the driveshaft on something and with it being thickwall it didnt bend or flex and whamo, you got a crack at the stressriser. of the male side neckdown on the slip. Only a matter of time until "Big Boom", see you found it this weekend though. Sucks but thats what metal does when it cant absorb the shock. Not the builders fault at all. Not your fault either. I blame the rock that slammed it. thumb.gif

Are you guys some kinda Rock Ninja Warriors today? I was the only one watching the driveshaft and this is exactly what happened. Actually, I don't blame the rock, I blame the lack of propane to take him to the top. But, better to find it now than in a "more precarious place" to winch from :flipoff1:

Re: High angle driveline .. Hell yea!

One of the Worst place in the world to break. :****: and I know he knows his ****. Has to to be able to build for the guys he builds **** for... I guess he rubbed me the wrong way sayin some stuff he did about us dum country hicks down here.. Anyways this is not a drag them through the mud thread, cause he has nice ****. It was more of a rant session I guess. Sucks to pay out the ass and have something break like that.
On another note. I kept thjnkin and thjnkin about this. And I blame MYSELF I guess. At full bump the shaft was REALLY close to bottom out. I guess i should have accounted for the extra tiny bit of room for impact like this, cause as in the shop said it did BARELY bottom out. Another lesson learned.. Glad it wasn't atlas end that sufferd. Would still be at STL, boo hoo'n :woot:
Thanks responses fellas.
And Scott last I heard you were catching vaginitis also and backed out ding dong. Didn't wanna hit Choco by myself. Rode to STL. Last minute decision..
Pic of where I broke and had to leave ole bessy hangin for her dear life. #sorryolebess

Re: High angle driveline .. Hell yea!

I'd just buy the male spline that broke,

saw off your tube a touch shorter (you said it was too long)

put it all together in the truck, put a dial indicator on the shaft (or clamp something up as a pointer to check run out)

(put the rear axle up on jackstands so you can spin the driveshaft)

start tacking it all up till you get it straight,

then burn it in.

I lay on the ground and spin the tire with my foot so it spins the driveshaft while I weld.

That's how I built all my driveshafts until I made me some fixtures with front outputs so I could build shafts on the work table.

^^^^ yes what Nick just said :dblthumb:

And I never backed completly out,,,"said I might" but went anyway...its all good you got out and done some wheelin any way man...."I kinda thought you just got high as fruit bat and drove to the wrong place Saturday" ;D
