I'm helping someone with a project. Just giving him a little help. He went and got steel from a scrap yard and picked out some 1/2 thick steel plates. As soon as I seen them I said those are cast. This guy being older and someone I looked up to growing up I gave him the benefit of doubt. He walked away I cut a piece off and welded it. It broke off with minimum effort. The metal not the weld broke.
Either way it can't be welded the way he needs it.
