I'm stumped by the part owner and sole proprietor title. Part owner signifies a business partnership. Sole proprietor signifies a single business owner who is one with the business and assumes unlimited liability regarding the business. Is there a way to have partner(s) and the business structure still remain a sole proprietorship instead of a partnership? If so, what are the advantages? I'm majoring in Business so I'm curious about all this.

It's not the best business setup for tax purposes for sure. A sub S corporation would be ideal but involved too much hassle with dividing the profits. It's basically a family business with 3 partners acting as independent contractors. I'm hesitant to form a sub S corporation since it would involve competing against the man that raised me...even though I would save 6-8k a year on taxes. Staying in a partnership means we gross more, and can split the expenses 3 ways though.
