Kush's random pic of his truss he posted made me think about this. I may be a real idiot to even ask, but I'm going to anyway. Do you guys run a front axle vent? I looked at my rear axle a year or so ago when I got it and the truss covered the vent tube and the PO just plugged it so I made a new one. Didn't think about the front until today. I looked at mine and if there is/was a vent from the factory, mine is covered by a truss similar to the one Kush has. I have never blown any seals and have no reason to add one I guess, but should I add one? And just so I know, is there one on a chevy front 60? I googled searched images and have not found the factory location, just pictures of people adding them.

I ran with a guy who plugged his vent off on a ford d60. Oring on his ARB **** the bed and forced the oil out of his axle seal.

I'm pretty sure you want a vent. The axle builds up pressure. Although I know you mentioned you have never had a leak. :dunno:

This was always my understanding regarding vents. Not sure why I never paid attention to the front before now.

So, for you guys with passenger drop 60s, can you post a picture so I can determine if mine is buried under the truss before I go drilling holes?

I remembered to snap a pic on the way out the door this am...
Not a GM, and not sure it will help but this is a ford hp 60. Not sure if it's the factory location as that's where it was when I got it, but my truss doesn't cover it.
It's just a short tube with a bolt in the end. To my knowledge it hasn't caused me any issues yet. My seals don't leak. (Once I got rid of the Yukon "super seals" damn pos's they were ugh)

I can tell you where NOT to add a vent. In front of the ring gear, because it will sling oil and come out the vent tube all the time. Had to move it.

Thanks for the pics and replies guys. Here is a picture of where I THINK my factory vent was supposed to go. It's hard to see, but the truss covers it just enough that I can't thread a nipple or anything in there unless I notch out the truss in that area. Best I can tell, it's been filled up with something also. Maybe JB Weld. I'm thinking about drilling in to the back side of the area, near the bottom of the hole, and adding a vent. I'll look at it more this week and come up with something for it. Thanks again.

That is a bolt hole for the spring bolt. Both my 60 vents are in the same location as in the picture posted before.

HMMMM, guess I'll check the other side tonight and see what I can find. Thanks for the info.

The reason you need a vent is partly for pressure but more so for vacuum... If you drop a hot diffy in cold water you want it to suck air in the vent hose instead of sucking water past the seals.

Hmm, interesting. Never thought of that.

I hadn't either...got me thinking about redoing mine and actually running it up high as a vent. Hmmmm. Yup added "to the list"!
