John G, Gone but never Forgotten...

We climbed hells revenge at choco and got to the top to wait on creepycrawler. John is talking to me and my ol lady and he brings up a ride where john lost a bolt in something. He asks Casey for one and he says yeah hang on. Hearing john describe watching Casey take a seat bolt out with his hands was priceless. Then he described the zip ties he found holding the harnesses in. I laughed till I cried standing up there.

I forgot, Anytime I needed something from Absco for myself or a gift, John would make sure he gave me a nice discount

I do not believe it did, do you remember who that was? All I can remember was watching John laugh his ass off and pointing at my broken buggy.

I've only been to John's house one time. And that was to pick up the Enclosed Trailer he sold to me. I was just a crazy kid with a dream of videoing and selling t-shirts at events. I thought all I needed to get to the next level was an enclosed trailer. I couldn't really afford one at the time so John sold me his old Harley trailer for about half what is was actually worth. I painted it gray and stickered it up and was so proud of that thing. It really helped me grow my business. I don't know if he realized at the time how big of a step that was for me in the right direction (or maybe he did). He always asked me how business was every time I saw him and told me straight up when he thought I was making a mistake. Being the video guy I always gave him crap about not hitting the gas pedal hard enough but Heck now I drive a lot like him. I try to make an obstacle look easy. Only hammering on it if necessary. Every time I walk an obstacle from here on out I am going to refer to it as JohnGing it. Many good times were had on the trail with John. He will live on in the stories we tell around the campfire and on our future trail rides.

I have a ton of memories with John as well, but one of my favorite rides was with John in the 38 special after the WOD open house party. We took the 38 through Iron Gap with John beating the paint off the belly of that thing cutting it no slack. After about an hour of that I finally said, dang John you ain't gonna have any paint left under this thing. He just laughed and said I'll make Woodly fix it.

That is awesome. John was telling me he had diagnostics ran on 38 and it had been at WOT 1% if the time since being built. A true testament to using the throttle when you need to and having restraint when you don't. Maybe one day, maybe.

My most memorable 38 Special moment would have to be an entire weekend, down at the GAP. Solo was under construction from all the Frog Legs parts, so all he had was 38. And he DID NOT disappoint. WOW. He even went on a mud run with me and BBone...

His style was legendary. I can only imagine the legend that will grow over the years. So glad there are videos to prove it too. I had never seen anyone traverse Los Primos like he did after one of the first RBD comps. He went ALL over that damn obstacle, where ever HE wanted to go.... with Jimmy Buffet blaring.
I've wanted to call/text/ask him something every friggin day. i get teary eyed every friggin day.

Harlan! Damn cold tent camping. He and Nan offered for me to sleep on the couch but I refused. John trying to take a picture of me and I thought he was trying to get a panoramic pic so I was trying to get out of the way.

I only got to meet him once at the Hardline ride and was a pleasurable experience and I was really looking forward to it again someday.
I have a group of friends from Ohio that got a hold of him to ask a question about a park down there once and he ended up showing them to several parks during a week long wheeling trip. Really jealous I never made it on that one. He was all they could talk about when they got back.

That was the group that he opened his shop up to one night to wrench. I think a few rigs that night and they set up camp in his driveway that night too. And a few of us locals came to point/laugh/drink. It's literally the type of guy he was. He never met a stranger. The invitation he gave to that group was inspirational to me, even at the time. His heart was huge.
