JB Converison Low Max 205 to turbo 400

I have a Turbo 400 with NP205 currently. I bought a JB Conversion Lomax 205 and the adapter plate does not match. Can anyone help me out? I have some pictures but do not know how to post. My current setup
is just a round 8-bolt setup. The new one is hour glass shape.

That was my first thought, would be weird that they would only make 1 pattern and make it the old one. So you have an 85 and up adapter and the shorter output shaft (round pattern 205's had a way longer input). Even if the adapter were to bolt up, would the shaft reach in the input on the lomax, or is it a long input?
 
They only offer the short input. I guess I'm not following why the old adapter can't be used? The only thing you should need is a bearing retainer from a ford 205 and set screws with pipe dope on them to plug the race track pattern holes up so they don't leak

Short input only would potentially be a problem. IIRC the 85 up with the longer input and circle 6 also had a shorter output on the trans. I was asking if when he slid them together whether he had enough shaft engagement giggity
 
Yes the 85+ has a shorter transmission output shaft. I ran into the same thing while replacing a round pattern 205 with a lowmax. I didn't want to change the output in the transmission so I ended up using a 400 to 208 adapter with the round pattern on the lowmax.
 
I see. Mine is set up for the figure 8 now but originally I used the round pattern and didn't have a factory adapter or trans so I used a 208 trans and adapter and it worked flawlessly.

What exactly is it hitting or can you not tell? It looks like it would bolt up to me also. Make sure your bearing retainer will go all the way inside the adapter before bolting it on the transfer. I've ran into slight clearance issues bolting a 205 to a 208 adapter and it's hard for me to tell which exact adapter you have. Also don't forget to plug all those figure 8 holes in that case or it will leak like hell....

You do realize that you are supposed to use the other set of mounting bolts for this config, right? I'm talking about the set that goes around the input shaft. There's 2 side by side in each location for clocking purposes. Not being smart, just trying to make sure you are aware
 
Yes feel pretty stupid, got home and was really checking it out. I realized that the bolt holes were there for the bearing retainer. They had been plugged with
allenhead studs. It was filled with black silicon so looked like it was just not threaded holes. Thanks for all the advice and information, it was very helpful!
