Any drone guys in here?

Not one. I love the thing. Some people might want it to be a little faster but 44 mph works for me. That's fast enough to fly out of range pretty quickly. I also found that the 4 Pro batteries are higher capacity and will give a few more minutes flight time. Also found this in a search:

What kind of range are you getting out of yours? That's a big draw to the new mavic is the occusync technology instead of lightbridge. Also I want the mavic because it will fit in a saddlebag or backpack on the motorcycle.

I did see the repeal for registration requirements. Pretty neat stuff. Just don't use it commercially.

I think they claim 3 miles. I've had mine about 1.5 miles away or 1,800' straight up before the video transmission starts to get choppy, but there were some trees around. And it has a setting where if you lose signal or the battery get low it turns around and comes back to where it took off from. I haven't heard anything bad about the Mavic. I just saw a phantom working so well and made my purchase. I probably would have went that way if I'd have researched it more.

I'll probably wind up with the phantom because I am cheap and the Jew in me won't let me pay retail for anything. I'll let you know what I get and how I like it. Thanks man.

The mavic is a great choice, shoots 4k and records straight to your phone. The range claims 3-4 miles, but as mentioned earlier the live feed gets choppy about 1.5 miles away. Being able to stuff it in a day pack or glove box has allowed me to take it to remote places where a phantom may have been difficult to carry. Not to mention it fits between tree limbs a little better.... I've got two or three videos of it hitting tree limbs or being tagged by flying rocks behind a rock bouncer and it keeps flying :dblthumb:

. Just west of Wooster.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall at supper time in one of the many Amish houses in that area while they talk about that thing flying around them in a field.

Thanks for the input. I am torn. Batteries are cheaper for it by half. It fits my needs better, but it's more expensive to start with. I am gonna keep looking for a used one.

Well, I decided I couldn't turn down the lightly used phantom 4 so I picked it up. Should be able to knock out a flight in the morning before my other flight! I'll let y'all know how it compares to the ole traxxas.

Re:

My BIL is a photographer and uses a mavic for doing photo shoots. It seems sure nice. Easy to fly also.

Battery life on them has kept me from buying one. I wouldn't use it much but think it's be sweet for trail rides if the battery lasted longer.

Phantom 4 with 4-Pro batteries is 23-25 minutes flight time. I'm not sure about the Mavics.
Found this. Mavic seems to be the best.

Flew the phantom for 16.5 minutes and landed with 42% battery yesterday. It was windy and I kept getting high wind warnings, but the drone took it like a champ. I was super impressed and intrigued with the FPV flying. It's too cool.

I also flew the Aton on the way home from work. Put it in fast mode for the first time and did some flips and stuff. Man that thing is stupid fun. I thought I would sell it to offset the cost of the phantom, but I think I want to keep it for trick flying. They fly so differently and fill 2 different roles.

I highly recommend both platforms. If you are thinking about it, JUST DO IT!

I still think I would prefer a mavic, but couldn't justify the additional expense. I may pick one up when they start hitting the used market. I think the portability would mean I would fly more often and in more places. Until then, the phantom is phenomenal.

Just found a used mavic pro!!!! Headed to go get it! Anyone need a phantom 4 in like new condition? Smoking deal!!!!

Just reading seems I need to avoid these things. You have become an addict. Lol

I flew the mavic today and it is AWESOME! Flew it just over 2.5 miles and landed with 42% battery. Took some cool footage and I am super impressed with how stable the camera is. As a camera platform, it does everything you could ask for. I haven't messed with sport mode yet. I am sure it won't be as sporty as the Traxxas, but that's not what it is built for.
