Jeep newb question?

What in the heck are these? It is located on the passenger side at the rear of the tub and there are wires coming from them. Btw, it is a 94 YJ.

Where do the wires trace to?

My first guess would have been a previous antenna mount of some kind.

My Jeep has them also. It matches with another set on the rear door it is for brake light since there are no wires.

Oh, for like a 3rd brake light? The part on the tailgate is missing on mine.

They go into the harness with the rest of the taillight wires.

Gotcha. Guess I never realized that a YJ came with a 3rd brake light. My first thought when I seen it was that it may be for some type of switch to let you know the gate was open, or maybe to turn on the interior lights. Kinda like what is in the door jamb on most vehicles. But since the other part of it is not on my Jeep, I really wasn't sure. So, thanks @j-mox for clearing that up for me.
