NP205 doubler mounting

I'm adding a 205 behind a Nissan range box using an nwf adapter.

It's going in a box frame pathfinder behind a stock v6 on stock mounts and a 5 speed.

Current (stock) setup has a mount in the middle of the transmission. I'm thinking I should ditch that one and run a mount at the doubler.

Anybody use a PTO cover mount like this:

Also, here's a pic of the setup for reference. According to other Datsun fanboys like myself, the 205 isn't any longer than the stock chain drive portion of the case that gets removed to add adapter and 205 - it just weighs a metric **** ton more.

I would advise 3 mounts. Obviously 2 engine mounts and a single transmission/tcase mount.
BUT!! I would build a solid mount bridging the transmission and the tcases and then use a single mount under it.
This designs puts all the torque load through the engine mounts and doesn't break tail housings.

That's what I'm hoping to avoid if I can help it. Guess I could build a subframe that's mounts to the frame at 4 spots and is bushed at the case and trans.

I would avoid that. Especially with a stock frame that flexes a lot. Recipe to add a lot of stress to the cases and trans.

That's what I was leaning toward. I was concerned with 4 mounts the wrong bind could add strain instead of relieve it.

They adapter is about 1" thick (it has bearing pockets bored on the inside) so I know it will be solid. I'm leaning toward drilling out the bottom 4 holes, mounting a piece of 1/4" plate to the adapter and case with some 3/8" bolts through it all, and putting that on a bushing and crossemember.

I have used 205 mounts from the PTO side and the factory mount location without issue. Drivetrain was all rubber mounted at the time.

My current 205 is supported by a ring mount at the rear output.

Only took 8 months, but I did like you suggested @TBItoy. It's got 6 bolts in two planes holding to the aluminum housing. Hopefully that's enough to keep from pulling out the threads.

Oh, and the stock trans mount is going away, it's just there until the new mount is tied to a crossmember

Looks killer man . That clear oil level line gives me running over limbs anxiety but none the less sweet when checking levels. How did you adapt to the nissan stuff? I realize the nwf but they sell nissan adapters?

They offer this doubler. The stock Nissan case is a beefy gear reduction box with a chain drive unit attached. You ditch the chain drive and mount the doubler adapter. The stock gears are 1.96:1 and huge. They dwarf stock 300 gears and are more on par with the 205. Way overkill for the mediocre 3.0 or 3.3 v6 a Nissan put in these trucks

Oddly enough, the driveshaft lengths remain close to the same. It narrowly fit the stock floor too. It about 1.25" lower than the old setup, but with the way I'm building the cross member it will only be about 3/4-1" lower. If I didn't have a heavily tied in cage, I could have added a 1" body lift and had a flat belly.

The site tube will be protected by the skid. I've been told these puke oil and know the 205 will, so I have both breathers going to a catch can under the hood. I just wanted to be able to see how much it pukes.

You seen the abuse that middle easterners put their patrols through ?

Clear sight tube is on almost every atlas T-Case. It'll be fine :)

I really want to put an ls in front of the 5 speed. It's the same 5 speed used in the twin turbo z cars. With the adapter I'll still be less money in than an nv4500 and if it ever fails, the xterra/frontier ones are even slightly better than this one.

Patrick has tried to talk me out of this madness.

It looks like you trimmed the 205 housing as well. Math is not my strong point , so whats the ratio in low low 1st

Should be about 3.84 (1.96x1.96)

I pulled out a 3.7:1 geared stock case (gears were aftermarket). I really wanted 1350 fixed yokes, mid range (1.96) and front digs.
