Well i did it today, She now has a bit more respectable front bumper and a winch on top.

At some point in the future a Warn winch will grace the new bumper but for now this one is better than nothing being it came off the cradle we had for the back.

IT's about time. Lookin good. :awesomework:

Hey Karl, question, should i be using more than the 4 bolts the go through the bumper, plate and into the winch? Being its the cheapo winch and plate none of the other mounting holes line up at all.

On the TJ's you use 4 bolts that bolt the plate and bumper to the frame. Then there is a 5th bolt right under the radiator. As long as you have 4 grade 8's in there you will be okay.

I highly reccomend putting some small tack welds on the winch plate or on the bolts holding the winch plate on. Even though you have a budget winch, folks still steal those too. Just some sort of quick anti theft protection. :awesomework:

don't you have a cutout hole on that bumper for where the winch mount's too??

There are about 15 holes in the bumper top for winch/plate mounting. The ONLY bolts i have in are the 4 that go through the bumper, the winch plate and into the winch.

don't tack weld bolts ! they go from graded well to grade poop

I agree, cut a 1" piece of tube, tack that down over the bolt head, and then tack a cover over the tube. That way you effectively enclosed the bolt head, but you aren't heating up the bolt, effecting it's strength.

We are going out with Dave today to Reiter.

Just an update, The winch works well, we had to use it on Stair step/3 stair and Izzy. Both have been getting worse sence Karls newbie run back in augest. It must be all the rain washing out the dirt or the extra weight with the new front and rear, tools and winch, i'm not too sure which or both.

Kat

This is what Stair step did.

There's a difference between tacking, and welding... If you put a tack on it, you won't be adding enough heat to be changing the material properties... Now if you weld it completely, then yes, you will be adding enough heat to change the properties and effectivly making it no longer a grade 8...

As to an anit theft device, both ideas will work, but I'd say one is simpler, and the other is better.
