I'm not talking about the monster truck cases like TC runs, what I'm asking is if anyone locks a 205 or any case in low? In a strictly off-road buggy that makes decent power, and isn't a west side crawler,I see no need for high range or multiple low ranges.

Why would you lock it in low?

This... Isn't that what the shifters are for.. Locks it in low when you want low, high when you want high, neutral etc.... :flipoff1:

no chance of shift forks bending and having it slip outa gear, less crap to go wrong, and with 44s high range is useless for most people anyway.

I know of several that are locked in 4lo or don't have tcase shifters at all.

I when I finish up my doubler, I'm planning to lock the rear case (205) in low. My only tcase shifter will be the reduction box.

I like being able to do front and rear digs and being able to drive from trail to trail in 2wd.And really if you've got a good strong case is shifter forks really a problem ?

But I'm sure you could take say a 205 and make it just a low rang box pretty easy if you really wanted to. All you would have to do is tap the holes in the top of the case where you drive out the shift fork pins, then screw a bolt in the holes till you hit the shifter rails, that would hold it in the single gear and not let it shift,

For me rear steer takes the place of digs, and besides rear steer I want to make the buggy as simple as possible. No suck down winches or air lockers or any other fancy gadgets, just want to point n shoot.

if you dont want shifters put it low and leave the shifter off if your shift rails are good it shouldnt jump out of low

You could do this and weld the shift forks into place. Seems like a waste of time. If I was that worried about blowing up a 205 I would make it very easy to swap the 205 as cheap as they are. Prolly be less fab work involved in that too. :dunno:

Thats what I'll end up doing, just wanted to see if anyone else has do anything diffrent. thumb.gif

i have a single seater with a 205 that is 4lo only. shifted it into low, didnt install a shifter. its that easy.

I run a 203 to 205 doubler. I broke my 205 in half on boat ramp a few months ago. upon putting another one in I decided to opt out from having twin sticks and the ability to shift the 205 from high and low. The reason I did this was my concern that the front fork detent was not holding it in gear correctly on hard assaults. Hence causing gears to pull away from each other in the case. I will be adding back the shifters once I can convince myself that it was just time for it to let go. Either way it sucks to not have front dig or straight high range when racing John G back to camp. :****:

no, plenty of power to push it, and 49s dont need high range. besides its easy enough to put a shifter in if you changer your mind
