1 tons or rockwells??

I started my first actual crawler. It's a stretched yj, 6.0, turbo 350 and a 205 t case. My question is what axles I should run. I have a set of 1 tons with 5.13's and also a set of rocks. I already have a set of 49" irons and a set of 46" claws. Not sure if these are to big or are perfect. I've built plenty of mud trucks so I'm always thinking bigger is better.any input would be great.
 
Driving style and motor dictate. I see you have the motor....how do you drive?

Thats a lot of rubber weight to sling around. If you like the skinny pedal go Rocks. If you are easy on the pedal, tons will work great.
 
With a jeep frame I would go with tons. With a custom frame or tube chassis I would do rocks.

I just cut up a stretched one ton YJ and built a tube chassis on rocks.
 
I was just referring to overall ride height. I've seen very few that look stable under stock frame. They mostly look like Florida mud trucks when done.
 
Thanks for the input guys. The frame has had plenty of work done to it so I hope it will hold up. From the belly pan back has all been replaced and plated with 1/4" plate. Boat sides are are 1/4" and stock parts of frame were plated in 1/4".Probably gonna go with the rocks. I have them in one of my other trucks and somewhat familiar with them.

Stinkin sweet boat sides. I think that's one of the biggest under rated upgrades ever.

They make such a huge difference in technical large rock crawling situations.

I vote rocks.

Unless your going to be driving down the highway to me you gain nothing by going with tons.
The weight difference isnt that much once both are rigged out with breaks and steering and you dont have to upgrade shafts in the rocks.
Easy to go rear steer also if you choose to one day.
I have had both and for what I do with mine they work great. Woods only
Also with that big a tire you are going to need to upgrade everything on a dana 60 and I would recommend the 14 shafts also.

You will get a million thoughts on this so just go with rocks and rock out.

Ten 4 i agree with that. Most of them do.
