I picked up a 14 bolt housing the other day with a ballistic fab shave kit already installed I would like to use this housing since all the work is already done, but it missing the carrier bearing caps, could I use the caps off another 14 bolt or would it damage the new bearrings?

You can, just measure the bearing bores and make sure they are round. If they aren't, hopefully the caps you get are tall and you can get them ground to spec. If they are short, it won't work.

You'd probably be better off just buying or making a new shave plate and reusing the cover. Or just torching the shave plate out.

I disagree a smidge. There are a million 14blts in circulation. They are gonna be so dang close in measurement, I wouldn't think twice about swapping caps. Especially since WOD builds em with so much preload. Unless you get some crazy one off cap measurement, I would t sweat for a second.

All this compared to shaving another 14. It isnt rocket science but messy and time consuming.

No offense TBI, I agree mostly :)

Pretty sure you fully agreed with me...?

dunno

Thanks for the info,I will check the Id of the bearing bore maybe I will luck out, another question I have a set of used 4.56's I am going to try and use they appear to be in good shape what would you recomend setting the backlash and preload at?It will be mainly driven offroad but will see some road driving.

I wouldn't hesitate to use a cap from another housing... And set gears up with no more than .004 backlash... I almost set em at at no backlash... Helps with shock load on wheelin rigs

Set the backlash to .005
