I have found a 1948 F1 complete as far as body, trim, etc goes. It does have a 460/C6 combo in place instead of the flathead.

I am trying to get a value as a non running, plenty of patina, needing full restoration truck. I won't have pictures for a week, but I want to get an idea of what to ask. I know it hasn't been on the road in decades. It will need all lines, brakes, etc. I see stuff on Ebay, but I never get a good feel for purchasing off that site because I usually think people overpay.

I don't want to insult the guy, but don't want to overpay either. Toss some numbers out from you folks in the know.

Thanks to all of the damn tv shows, one around here that the body is in good condition is around 2k. If you have one that is a running and somewhat sound truck with a title then it is looked at as a rat rod and who knows the price.

Any suspension work done? Clean install on the 460/c-6 combo? Is it old rod build that somebody spent money/time on and got tired of or something somebody cheaped together and wants to get rid of because it drives like sh#t? If the body is straight/sound $1500-2000 easy, more if it was built right, less if it was cobbled together.

I've seen only a couple pictures. One where it was toting one of the front tires. Needless to say that was a long time ago. The latter was a side shot where it sits now. I'll have to go and snap some pictures and post up.

old trucks have gotten retarded in last 3 years.
What I call an $800 truck is now a $6k truck, especially if its a shortbed.

You really have to have a shithole rust bucket to fall below $2500 from whats out there lately.

I was waiting for you to chime in. I know you have seen a good bit in the Texas.

The goal is to build this for my daughter. I was thinking 2k would be fair from what I have seen. My boy has a 48 Willys and it just seems right for her to have a 48 as well.

I will post up some pictures as soon as I get over to his place to check it out. Besides rust, anything specific to these trucks to look for?

Rust isnt a bad thing as long as its only on the body, and only on the bottoms of the fenders, cab corners. You start getting it up in the rain gutters and its probably done more damage than most would want to undertake.

As long as the frame is solid, and the rust is surface only thats it. You'll want to ditch the drivetrain, and the running gear. SImple reason, they are antiquated by modern driving and modern car technology. That and parts are expensive and hard to come by.

Maybe more of a project than you want, but treat it like a buggy, put in a modern rear axle (S-10/Colorado/Camaro), swap an LS with automatic w/ overdrive and a lokar floor shifter. and then depending on frontend swap it to disc brakes, and update all the bushings on everything.
MOVE THE FUEL TO THE BED AND OUT OF THE CAB!!!
Lot of people lower for looks, but its more than that, these beasts like to body roll, and the lower you can get that the better it will drive. Remember you are on the road with modern cars in something +60years old.

I went about a month ago with a trailer 100 miles'ish one way to buy a '61 Chevy pickup. short/fleet, and big back window, EXACTLY what I've been hunting. $2700, no drivetrain, it was IMO an $6-800 truck, but based on current values worth $4k (in pictures). Got there, and I just couldnt get over the amount of rust on it. Basically would have been buying for the bed, and I know it was worth it, but still walked. Heard it sold for $2500, I didnt even offer the guy any less, it was just not the one for me.

When people are asking $4500 for this trash pile, it pisses me off.

Re:

Yep. Saw that one on steal bay as well. Some idiot will probably pony up and buy it.

Gas monkey and high scrap prices have killed cheap antique auto prices. Everybody thinks their rusted to the ground, hasn't run in 20 years junk is worth 5k or better. Get pics when you can and let's see what you're looking at. I recently bought a 65 Ford truck v8 saber for $350 with a new carb on the engine. Stuff still out there ,just finding it cheap is the issue!

Re:

Its missing the interior and the windows have been down for years. More project than I wanted to take on. It is a cool looking truck, just have to realize that this one is over my head. I have some found some trucks in better shape for similar money. Its gonna be a decade long build, so I want to start with something solid and complete as possible.

Get the best truck you can afford. Check the local buy/sell and traders helper rags. There was a 48 in last weeks buy/sell I think? My dad has a 48 you could probably get dirt cheap, problem is it's rusted junior I would be doing something with it. Don't know your skill set but me personally, I would rather do mechanical than body and tend to look for projects with great bodies and no running gear

Those generally have a 6" tree growing out of the bed. :fish:

So true on my 1950 f5. My truck indeed ran when they parked it in 1966 and it came with a tree going through the back. Also had a tree that came up between the rear leafs and frame and then up 20'. It is a F5 but it had a clear title I'm the second owner. Gave $500 for it. Only took 3 other trucks as donors to get it usable

Yeah 600-1000 for just the truck, then plus whatever you think the engine/trans is worth. I bought a 46 Dodge truck in 2010 for $800 no motor or trans. As it sits currently=
