Well my last post in here got beat down and closed down so I figured I would see if I could get one to last. I will have to make sure not to ask for advise or suggestions this time haha.

Well here's what I have been doing with my 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The frame was toast so I ended up figuring that I would take the parts that I wanted from it and sell the rest of it.

So I bought a nice straight 1991 4runner for $500 and so far have swapped the 3.4 into it but still have yet to wire it in and start it up. I just have to get power to the ECU and then splice it in with the 4runner harness. I'm also throwing the Toyota Electric locker from the Tacoma into the 4runner. I got it all out of the Tacoma already just have to modify my axle housing to get it in there and wire it up.

I called up the local auto parts store to check some prices for brakes cause I figured with the new found power I wanted it to stop. I don't know why but the previous owner removed some random things from it. It is totally missing the drivers side brake pads so I will probably have to get calipers too. I checked the part numbers for both the 91 4runner and the 2000 Tacoma and they both have the same back brakes so I'm planning on just swapping them. He had obviously let the axle halves and brakes sit in the rain when he took whatever locker he had in the rear out cause the drums are rusted on pretty solid. He just shoved the axles and a third member back in before I came and picked it up.

There were also two bolts backed out of the transfer case too but none of the others looked like they had been touched. Covered in a bunch of grime. It's also missing a couple bolts from the front IFS setup so I have to figure out if anything up there is messed up or if I can just replace the missing bolts.

I traded a friend my 35 inch mud terrains that have seen some abuse for some almost brand new looking 33 inch all terrains on some Aluminum wheels. They are a pretty aggressive all terrain that have some decent tread to them. I gave him $160 on top of my tires and felt like I got a great deal. The offset sticks a little bit farther out than I would like but I can deal with it.

I'm just throwing some FJ-80 coils in the rear to lift it a bit and I will get some ball joint spacers in the front to tide me over for now and so the 33's will fit all around.

I also picked up some 4 inch widened fiberglass front fenders that I might throw on it but I would need to repair them first.

I'd have some pictures of the engine swap and all but I have been working by myself and haven't wanted to stop to take pictures.

Its looking pretty bad ass right now, can't wait to see the difference in height after we install the FJ80 coils. The 3.4 is in and waiting to be fired up. I still think this should be a desert runner. Good job dude, I'm more than happy to be a part of this build!

cool Im doing one of these right now except this one is going to be straight axled and the rear is getting leafs instead of the toyota link setup. Im glad you found some use for the taco:awesomework:

yeah I was going to just swap the whole axle from the taco into the 4runner with the leafs but the lack of a welder and being able to shove the locker into my existing axle will have to do. Eventually I might Solid axle it or play around with a long travel IFS kit. Im using the Tacoma for what I had orriginally planned I just figured I should see if it was repairable first.

So I took out the axle yesterday so that I could modify it to fit my e locker. I took off one drum and I went to the other side to compare cause I had noticed that the center of the outside of the axleshaft looked different. Well the wrong drum was so much smaller that I could fit the stock drum right over it. I took the axleshaft out and it was so short that the teeth didn't even reach the third member. There was the correct axle shaft and brake in the back of the 4runner so I just went to slide it on for now and noticed that it had been hit hard with a hammer in the center which must have been to try to get the splines into the thrid member and when I just shoved it in it got nice and stuck. It was dinner time then so I haven't messed with it since but im not even planning on using that third member since I have my elocker but I hope the splines aren't messed up on the axleshaft now. They appeared to be fine before I shoved it into the housing but I didn't inspect it close. I have been sick today so haven't been able to work on it. Oh yeah the previous owner told me that all it needed to drive was a battery and a different engine. haha. Come on where did honesty go?

It sucks when you feel like you got screwed its getting harder and harder to find honest people but they are around still :awesomework: good thing you pulled it apart that may have sent you on a wild goose chase when you got the engine fired up. a frien of mine just bought a wheeler off cl and the gears didnt match front and rear but he knocked them down far enough on the price he probably deserved it :D

Yeah I'm glad I was planning on using my elocker 3rd member anyways or I might not have taken it apart and figured it out right away. I wonder what else I'm going to find that's totally wrong on this? I just hope the transmission and transfer case are good. I didn't even try to barter with the guy on his price either. I gave him exactly $500 which was what he was asking. I'm still totally happy with getting it for that much too but it just would have been nice for him to let me know a few things.

So after spending way too many hours over a few days trying to figure out why I couldn't find my correct wiring connectors in all of the wiring diagrams that I downloaded and printed for my 2000 Tacoma I finally just found it and the connector I can't find is for a 2001 Tacoma. Well that has been fun my 2000 tacoma have a wire harness or at least part of a wire harness from a 2001. I have the whole truck here so I know its a 2000.

Well on another topic I got my 4runner rear axle modified to fit my elocker. Its all ready to be installed back into the 4runner now with my panhard drop bracket and land cruiser coils that I got the other day. I just figured I would buy all new seals and bearings while I had the axle shafts out. I can get the housing in without them obviously but I just have to figure out if I can get the bearings off without a press as they are on there pretty good but I am pretty out of energy with being sick so I'm not putting a ton of force on it. Probably going to have to wait for a shop to to press them out.

did you leave to downpipe on the passenger side or build a drivers side downpipe? and did you get it to fire up yet?

I had a drivers side downpipe made for me. It turned out great too and looks stock. I still haven't gotten the wiring diagrams for a 2001 tacoma yet. I sure hope they will be the right ones. I have been too busy with the front and rear axles and getting the fj80 springs installed to lift the rear. I can't wait to see how well this electric locker works. I am waiting on my axleshafts at the machine shop cause the bearings are pretty rusted onto the axleshafts. They will be done tomorrow and I will just have to slide them in and put on some new brakes then it'll be sitting back on its tires again and then its just getting it wired. Im hoping to have it driving this weekend but inbetween working on a friends car tomorrow and work every day who knows.
