1992 2wd Sas

typical toyota build. trail gear 3's up front. dual cases, hy-steer, knuckle ball gussets, diff armor, etc. i had an 81 and decided to scrap it and start over with this truck. its a 92 2wd 22re w/ 99K on the odo. my dad bought it new in 92 and was his work truck until i turned 16 and was gifted to me. i did a fabtech 3.5" on it and beat the piss out of it for 5 years. now i am going to SAS it. I will be doing a cage, front and rear bumpers and all the work to convert this thing. I am lucky to have a 25,000 square foot shop to do this work in. I am hoping to have this complete in 2 months as I will be working on it every chance I get.
 
I did a 91 2wd to 4wd conversion about 3 years ago. Some of it is easier than a SAS on a 4wd, like there's a whole heluva lot less to cut off the frame. But there's other things like mounting a steering box, you have to build a new tcase crosmember because the stock one welds in etc... The 2wd frame is also only single wall, no doubling of material where shackles mount.

i will probably do a fish plate where the shackle tubes weld in. i have an L-52 tranny and a marlin dual case crossmember for a first gen so it will need new mounts anyway. i am really excited to start this. it is nice having every single part i need down to bolts before i even start. i have about 1000 square feet of work area all to myself. i will get some pictures going as soon as i start it.
 
unfortunately i am going to be gone in vegas for the sema show all next week. :fawkdancesmiley: i have some things to do at work tomorrow but i may just bag them and start cuttin the front suspension out. we'll see what i end up deciding to do. here's a picture of about how it sits now...

i got the front end out yesterday, but didnt have a camera. who cares though, haven't we seen enough ifs rigs with the front end sitting on the ground below it.:rolleyes:
 
i got the front hanger on, and threw the springs on to see where the shackle tube is going to need to be. it needs to be right where the front leg of the body mount attaches to the frame. so i cut the front section of the body mount out so i can get the shackle tubes in. the 2wd's must have a little bit different body mount set up. i keep forgetting to grab the camera when i work on it, so hopefully next time i can catch up on pictures.
 
I don't claim to be a professional photographer, but I threw the front end it so make sure the shackle angle was alright and to get an idea of the height. in the pictures its obviously way taller because all the weight is on the back. im going to yard the front end back out, finish weld everything, then paint it. so i will get some more detail pictures then.... but for now
