I have a new project a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo and I am seeing what my options are and what size tire could I push it up too maybe 31?

Any info would be great.

You need to hit up trashypoo scott....seems to me he's got (or had) a rodeo on 33's with no lift....I'm sure he'll chime in at some point...:;

Huh, what??? :redneck:

I had a 94 that I actually got on here for free and beat it like I fawking hated it for over a year. Constant dune trips with never ending rev limiter and neutral drops. That damned thing took a crazy amount of abuse and finally something in the front end let loose and I scrapped it.

Gutted interior and 4 turns on the torsion bars cleared 33's good enough for me to care. :haha:

It was fun while it lasted that's for sure. :D

did you do anything to the rear?

I was thinking putting a toy front under it with leafs and maybe a add a leaf in the rear?

No, gutting it and knocking the glass out of it made the back raise a couple inches to match the front.

If I remember right the frame shape wasn't super friendly to low lift sas's but if could be done. Just do a spring over in the rear to gain the height needed to match the front.

The only downside to making it into a wheeler is the trans/t case are proprietary and you can't do **** to them. Although if you have the 3.2 it has the common 60* GM bellhousing pattern so you can either swap in a 700r4 or use an older trooper 2.8 bellhousing and mate an aw4 to it and the sky is the limit from there.

EDIT:

Oh and another thing, the drivelines are fawking BEEF! The u joints are a bit larger than toyota and the shafts themselves are extremely overbuilt. The front shaft is 5/16" DOM.

Come to think of it, there was a rodeo running around here with no/minimal lift and 33x13.5 LTB's on it...haven't seen it in a while though. Wonder why?:redneck:

the one I am working with has the v6 manual. how was it for being gutless with the larger tires? is regearing even an option?

Really didn't notice much of a difference from the tire swap. With the 5 speed you'll be ripping around no problem. You can regear the rear axle it's just a Dana 44. The factory gears and carrier are odd though. It has a high speed carrier with low speed gears so you'll have to swap in a low speed carrier or full locker. The front I'm sure there are options, there is actually a isuzu forum on PBB that has some decent buildups on it.

There are also Tera gears for the T-case. One really weak point is the tie-rods but there are also some super beefy replacements that use f-250 ends, etc.

The tie-rods are particularly vulnerable if you crank the torsion bars. Remember when we had High Rider? We once had to change the tie-rod while perched on the waterfall at the beginning.

The most common axles for a solid axle swap are the passenger-side drop Wagoneer axles, although several have been done with a Toy mini-truck axle. The most trick one that I have seen is a three-link using the FJ-80 high pinion axle.

Hi All:

Rodeos can fit 31s as is w/o any lift.

The first two years (1991 & 92)had a turd 3.1L V-6 (GM) and a weaker rear axle while the '93 and up got the Japanese 3.2L V-6 and the Dana 44 rearend.

Alan

well looking it over the rear springs are just gone is there a better or upgrade spring I can use?

Hi All:

Old Man Emu made replacement mild lift springs to fit the old Troopers (like mine) with rear leaf springs. Have no idea whether those springs will fit under a Rodeo.

Scott, measure those rear springs on your Rodeo and let me know the specs and I'll compare to the Trooper rear springs.

Alan
