So the wife and I have been looking at a new (to her) rig to replace her XJ. We both like the Xterras and with 4wd and 4 doors it would be a good rig for her. Just wondering if anyone on here has one and if so what do you think? A buddy of mine has one but he beats the **** out of it and it is just starting to have issues after 3 years of beating it. I cant really look to his to figure out if they are any good with the poor care it gets. Any input would be great:awesomework:

-cracks knuckles- ....Good choice dude, I have wheeled with guys that own Xs for going on 8 years now, I have a 00 frontier (same truck from the rear pillars forwards) and its been really good to me. I did loose and alternator but that was after four years of dunking it in mud puddles, the alt is on the bottom. A couple of things to look for are cracked exhaust maifolds, I think they rectified that on 01, Ill check. The other is make sure the timing belt has been replaced. they are due at 90k miles, dealer charges 1300 to replace other mech charge between 400 and 700, or if you are apt they are not to terrible. The trucks have a real T case, with a chain, but the chains are strong, they have a real steering box...that you can tap for hydralic assist :D They are good trucks. If your gonna wheel it the center link in the steering will wear out in a couple years, no biggie, 150 at napa. hmm...what else?

A few more "important" things, if you ever plan to wheel it, you can lift them 2.5 inches with a kit but the money is in an SAS, there have been a ton of these done with kits avalible. Transfer case doublers are avalible. lockers front and rear are avalible. I have an ARB in mine. The rear end you want is call an H233b, it looks just like a 9 inch ford, welded housing with drop out third. They also have a C200 rear end, this is a cast center section with a cover, they are not terrible but the 233 is tits, 33 spline, 9+ inch ring gear.

Well she wont be wheeling just driving the kids around and able to move in the in the winter and stuff. We may use it for camping but she wont let me wheel it if I tried.

Hi All:

How do the 4 cylinder Xterras compare to the V-6 versions?

Regards,

Alan

The Ka2.4 four cylinder is a sleepy turd. In an Xterra you really want the 3.3 v6.

I don't know why Nissan ever went away from the late 80s Z24. The Ka has more hp but the Z just put it down better, they eally are a peppy little four banger.

Yeah that reminds me, there are options for VDC and hill decent assist, my truck doesn't have either one of these so I can't tell ya much.

There are some models that have a super charger factory, it adds 40 hp but yiu have to run premium gas fyi.
