2.5 bypass air shock

from what i've read they are supposed to be the cats ass for air shocks and eliminate many of the shortcomings of air shocks… I think pro fender is making a similar shock also but if you've got the coin for kings i'd say go with them given my service experience with pro fender...

very nice, can't go wrong with King in my book.

There was a thread on pirate not too long ago about tuning air shocks and there's a good bit of quality tech on the bypass air shocks in there and WHY they are better.. there were a few guys that made their own bypass air shocks before they were available if you're interested in the read.

Well ****, I just called Kings tech line and they as much as said their a big flop , the theory was great but the tunability was a nightmare and their pulling them from the shock lineup, they fade bad and arnt designed for high speed , ony low speed technical comp crawlers

Their interpretation of high speed and ours is VERY different. When they say high speed and talk about fading, I assume that means out in the desert hauling ass in long distances over terrain that is brutal on suspension, covering lots of ground. Not a bouncer that takes 30 seconds to bounce right up a big hill. And what do all the bouncers do between big hills? low speed stuff. I guess the external bypasses help create more friction and heats up the oil fast and maybe froths with the Nitrogen quicker??

What's the big difference between the bypass air shocks and the bypass shock absorbers that everybody runs paired with coilovers out in the desert (and even some bouncers around here)? If they fade that quick and are junk, looks like the bypass shock absorbers would be too, instead of so many people spending thousands of dollars on them on top of the initial cost of coilovers. I may be incorrect, but isn't the only difference between a shock absorber and an air shock, the fact than an air shock is built to hold and maintain a much higher nitrogen capacity to create an air spring that supports the vehicle? Shock absorbers are charged with nitrogen too. Or maybe there's just something I'm completely not comprehending about bypass shocks. molaugh Either way I'm curious to learn more.

No, we were on the same page , they said they work on comp crawlers with 4cylinders dodging cones , not rock bouncers or anything trying to soak up a big bump over 5mph! Basically he said they suck !

I honestly don't think they'll ever get a solo air spring type shock to do what a coil spring and a shock absorber will do. The physics of an air spring and coil springs are very different. Hard to beat the progression of a coil spring for what we do.
