Howdy North West Wheeling dudes, working on a 2000 Heep ,

Its a AWD set up or quadwaaa track or whatever

The Frt axle is inop

seems to have some sort of limited slip set up, something hooky fer sure

3.73 gears

No tag on the frt cover but near as I can tell the Dana # that gives the info stamped on the housing is 611003HL.

So what can a guy do ? **** can the limited slip thingy and go with a plain carrier ?

can you fix this original dana gizmo,?? It appears to be the problem, everything else looks Okay, the thing is just very easy to turn, very little drag

C'mon.... we banned TrannyFrank for crappy retorts in the General Tech Talk section.

Let's keep this to Tech talk, until STP shows his (or her) true colors.

(edit - my reading comprehension was off... didn't notice Frank said it was a model year 2000)

Might help to tell the 'correct' Model vehicle and 4 wheel drive system.

I don't know what your talking about, that tranny guy has me convinced that his stuff will fix everything:cheer:

based on him stating is a 2000 and its a front axle with the all wheel drive hydra lock im guessing its a wj.

hydrolocks have verry little resistance to slow turns, the more speed diferential there is the faster it spins the pump inside it and the tighter it locks up.

if the incorect fluid is used, then its basicly an open diff because it wont have the friction modifyers for the clutches to work properly.

2000 Grand Cheerokee

What model Jeep?

Sorry to leave ya hanging guys but Crash called me gay and banned me ????

so

Its a 2000 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 l and Full time or AWD set up, or I think they still call it quadra track

Anyhoo, I was a bit hasty to condem the limited slip carrier being loused , the problem turned out to be much simpler ,,

The axle was not splined into the side gear, !!! Like the axle simply wasn't long enough ???

so I pulled the axle out and took apart the CV joint thinking that the little snap ring broke and the axle worked its way into the joint or something,,

but no just fine, all intact and full of a slimy greenish goop,

So ??? Called the boys at Napa to see if there was axle length choices, and sure enough the full time rigs or AWD rigs use a slightly Longer axle,,

Well easy enough someone just put the wrong axle in the pile and never tested to see if 4x4 worked??? I quests

so stuck The correct axle in it and took it fer a spin, well the 4x4 worked sure enough but with it operational the transfer case or sumtin under there is howling like a stuck pig

so that makes me wonder if this shorter axle found in it was a mistake or intentional ,, to keep the thing quite,,, Really gotta wonder ????
