My dad is looking at an 04 3500 with a duramax. Truck has 5000 miles. That's no **** and it is clean as a pin. It's got a dump body on it. Guy retired and used it on farm till he had heart trouble. Pulled out his bottle of nitro when we were looking at it.

I don't know **** about the duramax but read the fort gen like in this truck has injector problems. What's the deal on them? Anything else that might be problematic on the first gen Duramax? If so what are the fixes?

04.5? Does it have the lly motor in it?

Dads 04 dmax has 260k miles on original trans and only had minimal motor work done. Thing runs like a champ!

Yep what the guy above said. Here is some info from D.F. on how to tell which motor is in the truck. Newer motors have upgraded injectors. Hopefully someone from here that works at a dealership might be able to confirm this but I have a guy I work with that GM replaced his injectors as long as it was under 100k miles. He said they had so many problems with them that they are warranty covering them till 100k miles no considerations put on the year model?? I am not for sure on that just going by what he said. My truck is the newer model motor and only thing I have had was a water pump. Currently at 150k miles.

"So, how do you know if you have an early 2004(which is called the LB7) or the later 2004 (called the LLY)? Check your vin number. If the 8th digit of your VIN number is a 1, then it is an LB7 Duramax(the early one). If the 8th digit is a 2, then it is an LLY(later 04.5)."
