so i have really been thinking about running a 203/205 duobler, then i found out that the adapter was 700-900$:eeek:

now i am leaning more towards a dana 300, for what i would have into the 203/205 set up, i could have a 300 with alittle beaf

so i am looking for advice from those of you that have ran either set up. i am a toy guy and i am new to this 1ton/ anything that is not toy chit:redneck:

pro's/cons of both set up:corn:

are all dana 300's internally the same? i no there is a short and long shaft version, or something along those lines...

thanks in advance

james

I think in 85 there was a short shaft. this was the odd ball.

the scout D300's were a little differnt.

All jeep D300 are the same.

You always hear about people upgrading to 32 spline outputs, but i personnaly don't think its necesary.

I have a buddy of mine on a 5000+ lb CJ5 on tons 40 boggers and LS1 never broke an output shaft but has busted several cases.

You can get 4:1's for it from a couple of companies, and i'm sure somebody will chime in.

IMO if your going to upgrade the input or output shafts, get a Stak case as well.

if i had that kind of cash i would love one:D but i don't like i said i am a newb to this drivetrain so i am looking for info from those who have experience with it,

i am running a tbi 4.3/th350 so from the sounds of it my shafts should hold up fine... but will they hold up if i put a 4.1 in the case,

i see some selling twin sticks. but i want to do front burns so would i need triple sticks?:eeek:

yes, they will hold up with 4:1's.

buddy broke a set but that was doing 3rd gear wheelies at the mud drags.

You need to twin stick it for digs. I've never personnaly done the mods but as i understand its not to hard, just grinding a notch or something of the sort.
I just got my Stak 300 and need to put it together.. (i got a GREAT deal on mine)

well i might be going with a 203/205 now as i possible found one for a good price that will bolt to a th350

Internally, yes, the same. The short rear output was in 1980 model year CJ's. '81 to '86 they were all the same The Scout version used a bull gear input setup with the "reverse Texas" pattern like a Dana 18 or 20 transfer case, but is pretty rare (pretty sure that was only 80 or 81, maybe both).

Twin stick is really simple, yeah, if you want front low only you need to modify one of the shift rails, but really simple. I made mine myself using 2 stock D300 shift levers and some 1/4" plates cut to fit the ends of the shift rails, cost me $50 total. I will use that setup in my project Jeeggy too, when I get to work on that. Since it will have way more wheelbase than my CJ-5, it will get an NP231 doubler.

The Dana 300 is smaller in all dimensions and lighter than an NP205. DD Machines makes an adapter so you can run it with an NP231 or NP241 doubler, seems like his price has gone up to about $500, but it is supposed to be a really nice piece. The 231/D300 is way more compact than the 203/205 combo. For shear muscle, smaller isn't better. Yeah, the D300 can take a lot of abuse, and with an auto, you don't get quite the shock loading. I don't think any of the TH350 tailhousings bolt straight up to a D300 or an NP231, so some additional cost there.

D300 has better gearing than an NP205 (2.69 vs. 1.96), and if you want to upgrade the low range, 4:1 vs. 3.15:1. Makes it even more attractive when doubled.

If you have room, then go with the low cost single case and build up from there. Either way, D300 or NP205, it's a decent setup.

Your questions may have already been answered, if so, ignore me.

thanks for the correction, i couldnt remember what year.

May not know much, but I can point out trivial errors with the best of them.

The stock Dana 300 output shafts and cases are weak compaired to a NP205.

I skipped every reply. Whatever you do in the scenario youve brought on here it will be about 1500 bucks invested..right? for another 800 bucks you will have a t-case that you will never have to upgrade to.

Buy a atlas and be done with it....OR keep polishing a turd. right?

I wouldnt run a stak if i wanted to go 100 feet. steve tim and kevin already sold out. Advanced adaptors is a established company with a very proven past and most likely has more than a few engineers on board.

advanced has a three speed case too right? I dont know nothin about either one. I just like the idea of having three speeds instead of too high or reeel low.:awesomework:

Like having two cases in a toy insead of just 4.7s in one case. more options.

Kiss is a great thing. 3 speeds is basically 3 things to break.:masturbanana[1]:
