ok well whats so special about it compared to the 20r
im illiterate when it comes to toyota, im just curious as to why its perfered, im leaning towards etheir buying a lifted yota or building one.
If i were going to build one would someone please be so kind as to tell me what engine i should put in (what ever is easiest) 22r, 350, anything
what tcase to use, what tranny to use...

if you can find a toyota with a Chevy 4.3 instead, you'd be better off... otherwise, 22RE would be the only one of those three I'd go with.

1) Carbs suck. (go up a hill and watch your truck stall)
2) Lack of power sucks. (self explainatory)
Both the 20R and 22R have both of these traits. 22RE has only the 2nd. A TBI or Vortec 4.3 doesn't have either.

I would go with the 22re, of the Toyota motors. Carbs do suck.

As for motor swaps, V8's are cool, but a little large and heavy for the truck, in my opinion. The 4.3 is actually perfect power for the truck, but I am one of "those guys" who likes to keep things simple. The 22re is a reliable, torquey motor. A lot of people want more power, but I like how easy it is to work on the Toy motor, and they are everywhere.

It may be reliable, but it is most definetly not a torquey motore... Well i guess if you get it up to 4000 maybe it'll produce a little torque...

I guess I am meaning it is torquey for a 4 cylinder.... not compared to a V8 or anything. I have driven other 4 cyl. rigs that had half the torque of the 22re. And, actually, a friend of mine, who has always driven full-sizes, rebuilt dozens of (domestic) motors, has bought a Toyota and rebuilt the 22re in it, and loved it. He said it was one of the easiest and cheapest motors to rebuild, and for its size, packs quite the punch.
I just dislike "V" motors. Give me the same diplacement in an inline!!

i can see a big advantage to EFI compared to Carbs. But if i was gonna do efi id probably have to do a standalone, any car i have ever worked on with EFI is so ****ing complicated, and has so much **** that isnt needed that i think id be better off with a standalone
