I am not sure where to post this....but I have a 1987 22re that i am having some minor problems with and i was just checking to see if someone in the area can lend a hand or some knowledge. I am ok when i comes to things like this but I just cant figure it out. So if someones willing to help out, ill be more then willing to buy some beer or smokes, or figure out something. If someone had a welder in the area that would be sweet too because i have some small exhaust leaks that i want fixed, all new pipes and muffler but the friend that did it missed some spots. Thanks for reading!

Correct area to post....But throw the problem up on this board, it could be something that can be Inter-Diagnosed :awesomework:

I see your close to me :eeek:

Where in Monroe are you located??

ok I've been having issues with running rich I think. I have really smelly exhaust, the exhaust tip is covered in black and I have backfiring when I let off the gas in any gear or sometimes when shifting. no check engine light on, and i know it works. recently changed the 02. I replaced the tps due to ce coming on while at highway speeds, and that fixed that problem. no ce since. I have a cheap air/fuel gauge but that doesnt mean much. afm is from a 89 22re but it tested out fine. ???? Im thinking to start with fixing the tiny exhaust leaks because thats cheap and easy but still doesnt explain the black exhaust tip and nasty stinky smelly fumes. Any help would be great! thanks guys

Last time it had a tune up?? plugs wires ect. There a are a few sensors on those little motors that can make a rich mixture... does seem to run rich always or more specific....cold start blah blah blah...

The more info i have the more useful i can be :awesomework:

last time it had a time up was maybe 8 months ago, ie. plugs, wires cap and rotor, thermst. it runs great right when it starts, no poping or backfiring only because i think its in open loop and the air/fuel gauge reads ( ideal) ratio without jumping around from lean to ideal like it does when the 02 sensor warms up and starts reading and the computer takes over, at that time i think it starts acting up

i checked coolant temp sensor. egr i have not tested. I look up how to and try, but can you explain why it would cause this problem.

Egr tested fine any other things to look for?

GAH.....killing me. These yoters arnt really my forte either. Can you pull a plug after a few minutes of running and check it? maybe all of them. if they are wet you are getting a bad efi mixture. Whats your fuel pressure? can you measure it? Have you done anything to the fuel system lately as in maintenance? fuel filter ect. ect.?

**** missed this, check ALL grounds...almost forgot :redneck:

well i got a new fuel pump about 4 months ago along with new fuel filter. turned out that the pickup line in the tank was clogged. tested pressure at the time after cleaning and it tested in range.

one other thing i know this afm has been messed with. the silicone was all messed up and looked replaced so i went inside and found the gear had permanate marker marks and some of the teeth. if it tested out fine maybe i should touch it?
