Buddy of mine just bought a yota. Said its been running great but acting up lately. Here's his text to me......

91 Toyota , 22re motor. Once motor is warmed up,the idle goes up and down, especially at stoplights.

Any thoughts from you guys? I'm gonna go try to look at it this weekend.

There's an idle up valve (idle air control) on those motors that's designed to bump up the idle rpm when the A/C compressor kicks on. Basically just so the motor doesn't lug when the compressor clutch engages. It's should be on the right side of the valve cover about half way back. I'd check it out and clean it thoroughly. If he was running the defrost it could have been from this.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will try to post up when this is resolved. I have sent him these links to look at.

also on a EFI if the idle is to high when you push on the brake it will cause one to do this. some kind of safety.
