3.0 Idle issues

need more info---problem just start suddenly? have you messed with anything trying to get it to idle down?

Well, I've known the throttle body dashpot to stick, not letting it idle down, might check that? If it's been like this since you've had it, and the dashpot checks ok, let the truck fully warm up, then try adjusting the idle/air bypass screw in (on top of the T-body)-see if that makes a difference....should be able to stall it if turned all the way in! Bare in mind someone may have turned it out to mask another problem....

dashpot mentioned above
iscv under throttle body
TPS
rat stuck in throttle body
throttle body just sirty and sticking
low coolant.
low coolant/bhg
There's all kinda things can go wrong

It stinks.
ALOT.
chewed through air filter, got sucked into throttle.
about 2/3 of it was still there....:puke:

Check the timing. If its WAY off but runs ok, dont try to adjust it. You need to adjust the TPS. Might as well clean the throttle body too. For some reason when the TPS is out of adjustment the timing mark is like 1.5" away from the timing post.

Mine was so far off it was behind a bolt on the front cover and I almost didnt see it but the truck ran great. The only reason I checked it was because I just installed the engine (and thus the distibutor), and I was making sure it was all good. I discovered that problem, then searched around a little on Pirate and YotaTech and found out its a common problem when the TPS gets out of adjustment. I adjusted the TPS and it was magically right again.

Not sure if that will help your problem since you should check the timing at an idle, but just something to look out for eventually, haha.

its not the fix that concerns me. Here is my concern, and i could be off base.

The previous owner mentioned that the timing belt tensioner had made a noise, so he purchased a new one. After the purchase it stopped making noise.
The rig idled high, and in my opinion was down on power(even for a six cylinder on 39's with 5.13's)
Im curious if the bad tensioner caused the belt to slip a tooth or two, Causing the bad idle, and the lack of power. I believe that if this is true, he had to have known about it. we met half way between our respective houses(approx 320 miles for each of us) so i got minimal seat time in the rig before buying it.
But, its buyer beware, and nothing i can do about it. I'll do a search, and if i cant find anything start a new thread on replacing it.
