Not sure where to post this but I've rented a shop so I can stay out if the weather while working and it has single phase and 3 phase only down fall is I don't have enough room to install a double post breaker to run my mig welder. The 3 phase doesn't power anythang anymore. I was told I could wire into a 3 phase breaker using 2 hots and a ground I was told the 3 phase isn't 480 but I'm no electrician. :dunno:

If you have pole mounted transformers look at the bushings on the side. If there are two bushings it's 480

Electrical tester? Ground to each hot leg then test two hots to make sure it's 220.

You can, but if you don't know what you are doing call an electrician. It will be cheaper than frying something, or a trip to the ER.
