350 into a jeep

how hard is this to do? once i get my truck going, i am probably gonna take one of these cherokees and put in a 350 that my dad has into it, and make that my hardcore rig (or at least, beat it up more than my truck). how hard is it to put a 350 in a late 80s cherokee? do you have to reinforce the sub frame? are there any kits out there? most importantly, will the stock tranny/t-case/axles be able to handle the extra power? neither of them were 4.0

It's really not worth doing unless you are also going to upgrade the trany, t-case & axles...along with totally reinforcing the sub-frame from front to rear.

Cherokees allready have a limited life span when it comes to wheeling with stock power plants because of the uni-body design....a 350, or any other V8, will just shorten it even more.

Start with something that has a frame.

a yj OR zj are very bad bad rigs to build up.

go get yourself an old YJ and build that. v8's fit nicely into them also...

Cherokee with a cage. larger axles. Better tranny and tcase

MJ = Comanche

More of a "frame" than the XJs (because the box unbolts)

Speaking of MJs, I was thinking of putting the 327 (Nash/Jeep, not Chev) I have with nailhead TH400 (I have the trans in my '73 J4000 and the adapter ring from a '66 Wagoneer the 327 came from) and NP208F into the parts Comanche I have. (need to get a spud shaft for the TH400 that is 31 spline, or a 32 spline NP208 input gear if it'll fit the Ford tcase)
Of course I'd need some better axles, but it would be nice to assemble something I can play with out at Reiter. (living only 6 miles from there will have it's advantages!)
