You guys seem to figure out every problem with trucks so I got another question. 09 3500hd has a whine , very small vibration but mostly noise. As soon as I turn the wheel left of center it goes away? Jacked it up front wheel bearings feel good? Thoughts? :dunno: I'm assuming it's coming from the front hard to tell, but if not why would turning the wheel fix anything else?

would say the wheel bearing replaced one on my 2500hd it had a small whine to it and you could turn the wheel while running down the road and it would go away when u raised the front wheels off of the ground did u put a bar under the wheel and pull up to see if there was movement [I am sure u did this just puts a lot more leverage on the wheel]

Yah I did, maybe I should put more ass on the bar, 2 wheel drive also

It's the system that connects the steering and brakes so yeah it's a big deal. I had a 2011 Ram 3500 2wd that started making a whining noise like you're describing. Took it to the dealer and they had to replace the whole system. The whining would change pitch and altogether quit sometimes depend on speed and steering angle.

Ok, I know what a hydro brake system is I had one in my last rig before this one. I just I was thinking it was way more complex on a newer truck, and I'm guessing it is.

The wifes Tahoe did something very similar. I thought the front diff was going out but it ended up being a wheel bearing. If you lift the whole truck in the air, put it in 4wd, and let the wheels spin. Use something to hold one front tire at a time so all the power is transferred to the other tire. If it is a wheel bearing you will hear a difference. It might be very slight but one side will be louder than the other. If not at least you can mark it off the list.

They'll whine before there's any noticeable play in the bearings. It won't take long for play to show itself though.
