-3an line tabs, hard to flex lines

Those who have made their own tabs, what gauge steel did you use? Looking to make a tab to go between female flex hose an male hard line. I have the buggy kit from WOD. Be hardlined most of the way.
 
Thanks guys, Ive put a couple lines together to try and measure the gap. And get different measurements each time just hand tightening.
 
Are you using an adapter fitting like this? If so just use material the same or a little thicker than the shoulder by the hex

make the tab fit over the smooth part of the nut on the flex line (to the right of where you are measuring), and put the spring clip (or even an E-clip) in the groove you are measuring. That will work better and you won't have to hope it tightens down correctly.
