I have an R151 with an LCE clutch I'd like to keep. Is that possible? Who does harnesses for them and do the ecm's need tuned? Are the water outlets in the same general area as a 22 series engine? What costs are to be considered with such as swap. This is not a street legal rig. Thanks for the help. Haven't had much time to search all this stuff.

You gotta use the 3rz clutch, and 3rz bell housing should bolt up to your R151. You can trim the harness. The ECM does not have to be tune.

the computer needs to be from a 5sp truck/4runner 2or4wd, the auto wont work.

The W59 bellhousing that fits the 3RZ motor will not fit any of the R series transmissions. Marlin Crawler used to build a bellhousing to fit the 3RZ and R series, but I don't think you can get them any more.

You will need to find a G or W series transmission in order to use the W59 bellhousing.

You have to use the 3RZ clutch.

The 3RZ radiator hoses hook up to a 22R radiator.

I've made several stand alone wiring harnesses. It's pretty involved to do it correctly. If you are good at reading Toyota FSM wiring diagrams it's not that bad. Toyota wiring is a lot harder to stand alone than US engines. They bury the relays and fuses needed to run the engine into the dash harness. There's a mile of unneeded wiring to sort through to get the wires you need.

The ECM does not need to be tuned.

The automatic ECU's will work just fine. First swap I did, I used an auto ECU and it's got about 75K miles since the swap. It does throw a code for the shift solenoids, but does not affect the way it runs at all.

It's a little work to do the swap, but it's awesome for a Toyota motor.

Hope that helps. thumb.gif

all we used was 6 wires from E5 plug that goes to body harness, put in our own relays/fuses . The engine is 98 or 99 taco 2 coil pac with 98 4runner harness.

Nice.

That's a lot simpler than what I've been doing. I guess that is all that is needed to make it run though. I've been wiring it up with all the lights, gauges, and OBDII port so that everything in the truck works like factory. I wasn't able to simplify it that much.

Here's what all I used out of the '99 Tacoma dash harness to make everything work.

its in a buggy so really don't need other stuff, if it was a DD your harness is way better.
