Trying to get the details figured out here...

Motor is a 2001 4.3 Vortec, I have original wiring harness and all but the o2 sensors and the computer. I'm told to look for a 96-97 computer but how do I make that work with the wiring harness I have, connectors are completely different. Or do I need the older harness too?

Do you guys know any good places to go for advance adapters parts? I can get the bellhousing I need (AA# 712561) from Summit for $410, wondering if any other guys can get it cheaper. Have to order today to use my $20 coupon though...

Also trying to figure out what flywheel and pressure plate I should be getting, 153 or 168 tooth. Do I want to match the 168 tooth flexplate that came off the motor? I didn't get a starter with it, that was the only accessory missing and I don't know if it matters. 10.5, 11, or 12" clutch? 15lb, 30lb, internal balance, external balance... :surrender:

Crash, any of this gibberish make sense to you? It'd be nice to be able to sell this thing if I can't use it.

I've had this motor sitting around for like 6-7 months, figured I'd better get started on it. :flipoff:

Crrrrrraaaaaaaaaassssssshhhhhhhh!!! :wtf: do you do when you drop something behind/inside those crazy aluminimum accessory brackets? :haha: :haha: I was taking the battery wire off the Alt and...uh... whoops. There goes the nut. :looser: I'm tearing all that stuff off anyways to clean it up and see what I want to keep, but I bet you guys swear up a storm when that happens in the shop.

You could flop your rig. That might help.:flipoff:

Heh, according to this page and the "CFNH" code on the sticker the ECM I have is for a '98.

They didn't use a delphi computer on a 4.3 until 2001. They did use them on buick 3.8 engines though. Code is wrong, or the puter is NOT from a 4.3.

Ya, that's what I was told. I honestly have no clue what it's from, which is why I'm hoping Crash can use his super powers to decode that cipher on the sticker.

While raping pirate for all it's worth with google, I came across thisand it brought a tear to my eye. All those wonderful pics. Gone. :booo:

Not to hi-jack your thread but I am installing a 2002 4.3 in my cj and had not heard about using a diff. computer. Why is one better than the other.

So Crash.... are you able to look up what it is from? If I go with a 96-97 should I be looking for a wiring harness as well, and will that harness plug into all the stuff without having to change anything? Or is it better to redo the plugs on the harness I have? I've found some passlock 1&2 bypassing devices designed for use with remote start devices, if I used one of these I'd think I could use any ecm. Any of you guys know about these? From what I've seen they simply trick the ecm into relearn mode every time you start it.

Uh... :wtf: Same service number, identical to the one I have. Dude claims it came out of a '95 S-10. I'm totally lost at this point...

whats the return policy on the bypassing devices? Then can you test it? wait you said it wont hook up to your harness?

I'm not sure, but I'm assuming they're just a good old cut and splice install. For ~$30 I'm willing to chance it. The problem is I don't have a matching computer and harness.
