Anyways im currently doing a conv. 4.3 tbi -th350 trans -howell harness. everything is in harness is plugged in , and the engine is not cranking with key ,if i touch the starter posts with a screw driver it will crank, can anyone help, the truck came stock with 5 speed trans ,also on the dash there is a switch "clutch start cancell" also howell does not supply alternator wiring or directions . I could sure use some help!

try pushing in the clutch start cancell or pushing in clutch (if its still there) and see if it turns over. Don tlisten to that Crash guy he knows nothing about wiring in a 4.3 into a toyota:redneck: .

Find the relay for the starter on the right inner fender and trace the wire that went to the old starter and hook it up to the new. I am am home so I can't look up the wire color right now, but Crash could probably tell you.

as far as the alt, depends on what series you are running. Newer style only require switched power to the field to activate. Normally only a single wire plug on the side.

older style require switched power to the "f" terminal and the "l" terminal needs power with a light or resistor in series to work.

(plus of course the main feed to the battery)

SO 87's had a start relay on the passenger fender well and some didn't(Will be right next to the injector resister if it does).. TRy totoaly bypassing the clutch switch(jumper the wires)..

ANy idea on what year the motor is?
