ok so i think i have a skipped timing CHAIN on this blazer i bought. heres what i know:

it wont quite start.

first attempt it backfired through the intake.

i set the crank on the mark on the compression stroke and pulled the Dist cap. it points between 1 and 2, not at 1.

if i move the dist so the rotor points more directly at 1 it wants to start but wont. (cant imagine why the f*&k chevy ever thought it would be a good idea to put that damn thing in the back)

have fuel pressure didnt measure it yet but seems ok.

have spark.

anything stupid i am overlooking before i tear into the front of it?

4.3? Timing belt? Does sound like it's out a tooth or two but I could swear that motor has a chain. Was the distributor removed?

yes verified compression stroke on No 1, yes i meant chain.

im just wondering if any of the other sensors and stuff that could make it not start cause i have a running replica to swap parts back and forth to figure this out but im a ford guy. i dont/havent figured out what everything is yet. ill be educated here on 4.3s soon.

the crank shaft to camshaft movement (slop) seems excessive also.:D

i think ill run the compression before taking it apart.

I'm sure that's what he meant and you knew it. Don't be so technical:flipoff:

fixed it after all this is technical.

the dist was messed with, tha cap was loose and had two wires missing. not really missing just not plugged in. dist hold down nut was tight, very hard to get to.

Question is, was the distributor pulled out and reinstalled a tooth or two off. Sounds more likely to me.

naw i dont think the previous owners were that mechanically inclined. im assuming someone messing with it to determine why it would not start. kinda maybe did the same thing as me to determine chain slipage then walked away...
