4.3L Year Change?

Needa little help from you 4.3L experts. I need to put a new motor in a 97 S-10. What years are the same engine. I was thinking it was like 96-99 but wanted to make sure that was correct before buying a motor.

i am almost positive that they changed mid 2000 or early 2001.
around that time they placed the injectors inside the plastic intake manifold

96-99 are all the same. 2000 will bolt in, but they changed the balancing on the motor, so the harmonic balancer is different, flywheel/flexplate is different. They also changed the water pump a little bit in that year as well.

Workin here at chevy parts its 96-98 and there are the w and x models which are identified by the 8th digit of the vin
